Here are your questions for this week based on your shopping habits:
- When food shopping, do you go with a list and stick to it, or buy on the hop? For the past few weeks I have been using Hello Fresh to get my food ingredients delivered so I haven’t had to do much food shopping. I like to make a list so I can get in and out and not spend time and money on things I don’t need. If I have a list I’m pretty good about sticking to it.
- When clothes shopping, do you prefer to shop in a store or buy mail order? I like to shop in a store so I can try things on but I am an online shopper. Now, I have learned to only buy items that I can return for free or for a full refund if they don’t fit. I’ve never been one to wear something purposely once just to return it but I have had shoes that I have loved but after a few times wearing them realize they don’t fit well or hurt my feet.
- Do you like shopping for shoes? I am not as bad as I used to be but I really had a problem with buying shoes when I was really stressed out. At my first teaching job, the other teachers and my assistant knew to check in with me if they saw shoe websites on my computer. I do love shoes and it doesn’t help that David loves shoes too. I gave away a lot of shoes when I moved from the Northeast US to Southern US because they were impractical but I do miss them!
- Do you enjoy shopping alone or with friends/partner? I love shopping with people only if I am not really looking for something specific. If I go to shop for a specific item, a dress for an occasion for example, I am happier going by myself and searching the racks. That being said, I have brought David with me bfore and he does have a good sense of what is flattering on me and what is not.
Gratitude: I am so thankful for the people who care about me. I can sometimes dip into a depressive state thinking about loss and regret and it helps when people can pull me back to the present and help me realize all that I still have!
Thankfully my wife’s mum was an avid preserver so we make jams and pickles and chutneys, and we have invested in 4 lare upright freezers a d a large chest freezer. We barter to have livestock butchered by an ex-professional and we have taught ourselves how to make hams salamis bacon gammon etc. Wife makes pies quiches meals etc for and we freeze lots of veg and soft fruit.
We have a dry store cage in our wood shed that can hold loads of potatoes, root crops onions garlic in cool for very long time rodent and rot free.

That is really cool. You don’t hear much of that sort of lifestyle here in the US so much. I’m sure in other states but with all the Walmarts in Florida I don’t think anyone sees any point in running a freezer!

That wasn’t my understanding Christine. The permaculture ethos or idea is very widespread and I think that there are thousands of homesteads using eco friendly, low energy, more self sufficient ideas, methods and practices… but of course I gavent been to USA for over 40 years but know several families doing stuff in similar ways with similar goals. Take care.

I totally agree but where I live it is so over populated and there are shops on every street. When I was living up north I used to can tomatoes, make pickles, freeze veggies…

Over 5-6 years we got to about 70-80% self sufficiency in vegetables grown in our garden and meat (pigs, goat, sheep) we have bred and raised and processed. We make good lists of stuff we need to buy from a supermarket and try to go to town shopping only once per month – although we do have a good little supermarket in our village for emergency needs. In our village we arel also able to barter our produce amongst friends, neighbours and sometimes even tradesmen or labourers – whatever we can make a deal on.

When clothes shopping, do you prefer to shop in a store or buy mail order?
In a store to make sure it fits. Really dont go clothes shopping very often unless absolutely necessary.

Do you like shopping for shoes?
Yes, but again not very often. Love expensive high quality shoes – not fashion shoes but practical, hardwearing, safe – to match the lifestyle we have.

Do you enjoy shopping alone or with friends/partner
Alone unless it is something that might embarrass family members hahahaha.

Gratitude: – I am so thankful for the people who care about me.
Since I became ill in 2022 I have experienced so much love, support, encouragement, care than I could ever have imagined. In particular the local Bulgarian villagers have shown such amazing love and support – emotionally, practically, unbelievable – and we believe in returnin gthat in kind – simply being kind to one another.

So do you have a pretty stable climate where you can grow year round or do you jar and pickle…? Years ago I had a fabulous garden but I haven’t had a decent one in a long time. I’m restarting this year though!

I am astounded at the beauty on our planet. Now, let me go look at my Google map to see where Bulgaria is! Lol. 🤗

That’s so funny…. in a less kind lifetime I would have replied with ” only an American would say that ” bless you Christine.

Lovely gratitude Christine. I don’t like shopping for clothes or shoes. I think the last time I went shopping for something was a specially designed bra with pockets to cradle The Precious. I bought three in the end and spent over £100, and that included a discount. I have worn one of them twice. They, and The Precious, are in a drawer, but it’s nice to have the option to ‘level up’ if I wanted to.

Sounds like the conversation I had with David yesterday about some jewelry my mother had left me. I have no idea why I would wear it as there really isn’t any need.
