Braden’s prompt guidelines
Write: A) a sonnet, OR: B) a villanelle on the theme of: an animal, plant, or object, describing its qualities or what can be learned from it.
The bicycle wheels turn round and round
getting you further away from the world
Leaving no trace, not even a sound
New adventures with stories abound
the distance bringing you closer together
The bicycle wheels turn round and round
Treasures lost by others are found
in places most unexpected to be
Leaving no trace, not even a sound
Passing by homes, cars, and a hound
a blurry sight as you race quickly by
The bicycle wheels turn round and round
The winner of the race will soon be crowned
For everyone has their own finish line
Leaving no trace, not even a sound
There is a world to be discovered
if only you put yourself forward to find it
The bicycle wheels turn round and round
Leaving no trace, not even a sound.

I loved your poem Natural English, or: Sidespin but I couldn’t seem to find a place to make a comment. Really good poetry!

The bicycle meant freedom as a kid – I was so attached that I still own the bike I got at 12! (yes it is still working though it is no longer a 3-speed)

“For everyone has their own finish line”–I love that line. I also like the reference to the wheels on the bus song, intentional or not. It makes me smile and think of my childhood. (K)

Not intentional but it is there!

I have not ridden a bicycle for ages. This makes me want to start again. Lovely villanelle.

Thank you. My husband and I bought e-bikes and I am horrible at riding them now. I haven’t ridden in over 20 years probably! I’m just wobbly and the bike is really heavy.
