FOWC with Fandango — Renounce

Fandango hosts this daily challenge

renounce (rĭ-nouns′)

intransitive verb

  1. To give up (a title or possession, for example), especially by formal announcement.
  2. To decide or declare that one will no longer adhere to (a belief or position); reject.
  3. To decide or declare that one will no longer engage in (a practice) or use (something): synonym: relinquish.

The Cat in the Hat showed up at the house
with a suitcase firm in his hand
He said that he had a show to show them
A show about a marching band

The kids were excited to see the new show
They at popcorn and sat there real still
And the Cat played a little piano and sang
It really wasn’t a thrill.

The Cat said he’d march in a minute
the marching part he liked the most
He marched in and out of the kitchen
He marched out eating their toast!

He marched down the long empty hallway
to show the kids what fun could be had
but the kids knew the cat was absurd
and his playing was really that bad.

The Cat felt their growing resentment
and wished that he’d just leave this place
When he renounced and said he was leaving
He saw relief wipe over their face.

The cat took the little piano
He took all the popcorn and chairs
He packed up his little container
And headed down the front step stairs.
