Christmas Tree
As I stand before the tree
I remember the days of yore
When dreams still came true
And wishes were healing.
As I stand before the tree
I remember the days of yesteryear
When giggles were constant
And dreams still came true.
As I stand before the tree
I remember the days of the past
When dreams felt like hope
And smiles were acts of kindness.
Today I stand before the tree
And remember what I’ve been given
And how thankful I am
To be alive.

even though the tree is different every year it’s also the same when we return (thinking of the Christmas tree here)

The tree tradition holds within it such memories….a chance to express gratitude for those who have gone before. The repetition is very effective.

Wonderful use of repetition and I love how you ended with a simple message, one we so often forget. The heat is on, the coffee hot, and it’s good to be alive.

Lovely use of repetition in this piece – returning again to the tree, each time different but the same. It gives us a link back to those days and a way into those feelings of gratitude. Thank you for sharing this.
