100 Word Wednesday

Hope

It wouldn’t be much longer. I could see the golden sun coming up over my Oasis. I would have trees to shelter me as the sun rises into the sky; I will keep my mind focused on its position, so I know where I am heading.

I wonder if the world at the end of this road will be as bright as it appears now. I need the bright light. I need hope. I need to know what my future holds.

I will keep my faith alive and know with all my heart that my Oasis lies ahead of me.

What do you see?

Cadence, do you see it?

See what?

That one grain of sand that hasn’t fallen yet.

Oh yeah. Here let me tap the glass to make it fall.

No! Leave it. That means that time is standing still.

Time is standing still? Does that mean we can do whatever we want for as long as we want but no time is passing?

Yeah, that’s what it means.

Cool, we can go away for like a year and when we get back nothing changed.

Well, that’s if no one finds the hourglass.  If someone finds it and the last grain falls, we’ll be in trouble for getting home late.

So, what should we do?

Let’s wait and see if it’s going to fall.

That could take forever!

I know…

Prosery: Telescope of time

For d’Verse Poets Pub: https://dversepoets.com/2020/10/12/prosery-telescope-of-time/

The Visit

We were going to meet him again. We hadn’t seen him since we were kids. He was so mean, grouchy, and just seemed like a monster. How could a man like that be the father of someone like our dad?

Debbie and I walked slowly up the walkway. We could see the curtains move in the window; he must have been keeping an eye out for us. As we got to the door, it opened slowly.

Standing in the door was a little man, barely five feet tall.

“Debbie, Michael, it is so good to see you. It has been so long since I have seen any of my grandchildren!”

Debbie and I looked at each other and smiled. He was just a sweet old man. ‘We look at him through the wrong end of the long telescope of Time’.

“Hi Grandpa!” we said.

The Venue

As we pulled up to the restaurant our mouths hung open. The travel agent said this was a five star restaurant. What were we going to do now? This was supposed to be the venue for Megan’s wedding.

David and I looked at each other. We were in shock. We would now have to scramble to find a place to feed the families.

Megan pulled up a few minutes later. “Mom, I love it! This is perfect! Look at the view of the water. You both are the best parents anyone could wish for!”

David and I were happily surprised.

Tale Weaver – #296 – Stranger – 8th October

For Michael at MLMM: https://mindlovemiserysmenagerie.wordpress.com/2020/10/08/tale-weaver-296-stranger-8th-october/

The Road Home

I had to go slow, all the snow on the road, and no town trucks had been out to plow yet. I hated these back roads when it snowed. The snow in the trees was like a blanket trapping you into this small space. Everywhere you looked all you saw was white. It was beautiful but…

Who is that? Why is there someone even on this road? Shoot, I do not know if I should just stop here and wait…. wait for what? Should I try to back up and get out of here? Then what? I must get home. What am I going to do go back to the market and say that someone is walking down the road toward my house and since I do not know who it is, I will not drive toward him or her? People will think I have lost my mind.

But what if I go up slowly behind him and it is some psycho. I will be trapped because there is not anywhere to turn around up there. I do not think I would even have time to turn around before he was in my car or attacking me.

Good God, Crystal, stop with the creepy movie stuff! Other people live in this town and other people walk on this road! What are you going to do, never go back to your house because some guy decided to take a walk on the snowy road?

But who could it be? The Johnston’s are both in their 80’s and Mr. Johnston had no reason to be out in this cold. Becka lives with Luke…Oh, it is Luke. But where is his car? I did not see it back in town and it is a little cold to be walking right now.

Great, what do I do?

Okay, I will go past this person and see who it is. It is just someone I am forgetting about. My imagination must stop!

Photo Challenge 335

https://mindlovemiserysmenagerie.wordpress.com/2020/10/06/photo-challenge-335/

They say to go with it.
I’m trying.
Why is this going in slow motion?
What was I thinking anyhow?
Did I really need to run that fast up the stairs.
Damn carpeting.
I told Bruce the wood was better.
I guess Bruce was thinking of me at a time like this.
Carpet is softer.
How will I land?
I don’t want to get hurt.
Go with it.
Let it happen.
It hurts less.

WTF! Ouch!

Hiding

Peter? Peter? Where did you go? I thought you said this game was for me to hide and then you find me, but if I’m here, in some tube with the openings covered, how is that any fun?

I don’t know why you won’t answer me!

Peter? Come on, are you there? I can’t even get out of here on my own! You took the stool.

Whose idea was it anyway that I hide in some tube?

Whose idea was it to cover the openings?

Peter, if you are out there, this is a warning, we are no longer friends.

The Sunday Whirl: Wordle #476

https://sundaywhirl.wordpress.com/2020/10/04/wordle-476/

She walked into the dark room, wondering if there was any power to the building. She knew she was taking a risk, but no one was going to cast doubt on the fact that this was a crisis and someone needed to take control right away. She walked over to the board. Running her hand up and down the wall, feeling for the strip of light switches was yielding no results. Moving quickly, knowing the contract on her head was a direct assault, she wanted to grab the book and jump on her flight, A roll of the die wasn’t going to help this time around.

Wordle #208

Meld
Coil
Tuck
Sumptuous
Gold
Empty
Crisp
Renaissance
Souvenir
Thumb
Leggings
Coup de Foudre- “love at first sight”

Becky wished she had been alive during the Renaissance because of her love of classical philosophy. She loved the way people came together to meld literature and art. If she could have been there, she thought, she could have come away with gold embellished leggings as a souvenir. But for now, she held her thumb against the fabric of her nylon leggings, trying to tuck the tag back in.

Becky was looking forward to her date that evening with Roberto. She had met him in the half empty train station, and it had been coup de foudre. She knew her best friend Jenna did not believe in “love at first sight.” That particular day Roberto had been standing in the ticket line that was coiled around the pillar in the station. He had been wearing a crisp, new polo shirt and Becky felt he looked sumptuous! If they had met during the Renaissance, they would have fallen in love just as quickly as they had that day. Becky loved that Roberto was as romantic as she was.

The Gift

Marcel wanted to surprise Maria for her birthday. He had the idea to cook her favorite roasted garlic..

Marcel wanted only the freshest garlic, so he went to the farmer’s market in town. Upon arriving home, Marcel hung the garlic in the kitchen. Within minutes he was in the bathroom, throwing up. He knew he must have caught a bug at the market.

Maria stopped by to check on Marcel. As she was putting some ginger ale in the fridge, she noticed the garlic.

“Marcel, did I already tell you I think there is a vampire in my neighborhood?”
