FLYING/FLIGHT: dversepoets.com

Written for dversepoets: https://dversepoets.com/2020/07/28/poetics-flights-of-fancy/

  • Pen a poem that is about FLYING/FLIGHT (NOT FLEEING)
  • Take ONE or MORE of our natural winged phenomena – bird, bat, insect, seed, flying fish! (but NOT mythical creature with wings, NOT mechanical objects either)
  • Your poem can be purely literal or mixed with metaphor or even allegory
  • Write as subject or object; 1st or 3rd person
  • Preferably use FREE VERSE (like Sandburg & Lawrence above) as that best suits the subject of flying!
  • If you use any poem as source or inspiration, please cite the original in your post [click links to read above poems in full]

Bats at home

Once
there were seven creatures
black as night
flying in circles
clicking.
Now
there is one creature
black as night
flying in a circle
I cannot hear the clicking.
For bats disease spreads
quickly.

Have you ever lost a child?

Have you ever lost a child?
Have you had to say goodbye to a being that had nothing but love for you?
Have you ever had to think of all the things that still needed to be done?
Have you ever said that only a child should bury a parent, never the other way around?

If you have ever lost a child
you wouldn’t care
what they looked like,
what clothes they wore,
what lovers they had, or
what made them happy.
You would love that they were alive.

I would take my son back
no matter what choices he ever wanted to make
no matter what mistakes he ever made
no matter how many times he messed up.

Think about it.
Why hate a person while they are alive
when you can’t do anything but cry
when they are gone?

Fix: quadrille #104

For d’Verse Poets Pub: https://dversepoets.com/ and De Jackson at https://dversepoets.com/author/whimsygizmo/

Maybe it’s me

If I thought about you

And how I’d fix your ways

I’d start with all my visions

Of you these past few days.

Were you even happy?

Did you say some grace?

Maybe it is me needs fixin’

Here around this cold, dark place.

Solitude: d’verse Poets pub

Cold air
Muffled sounds
Heavy air weighing on your shoulders.

Quiet noise
In your head
Cool air sweeps in to chill the skin.

Time elapses
Time stands still
A clock ticks without being acknowledged.

Writing on paper
Computer keys
Random thoughts strewn on the page with no meaning,

Listen for an engine
Look for someone
There is no one near you, but you wait.

Super silly sammy

Super silly Sammy
loved to take a bath.
He loved to use his bubbles
He’d count them using math.

One day silly Sammy
ran out of liquid soap
He tried to use the bar kind
but man, he couldn’t cope.

Bar soap doesn’t bubble.
