Welcome back to another Sunday Poser

If I ask someone their name I can usually figure it out at a later time by picturing the moment I met them the first time. Unfortunately, if someone just says “hi, I’m so-and-so” it won’t stick at all, in one ear and out the other. Over the years I have forgotten so many names and am always amazed when I hear a name that I could have forgotten that person. I think I need to associate the name with something to remember.

I have it so bad I don’t even try to hide it anymore. I warn people upfront I’ll forget.

Hahaha, me too! I always say that I apologize ahead of time but I probably will not remember their name!

Thanks for sharing Christine. I also have this problem. The common names, I usually always forget, but unusual names I remember

I’m the opposite usually because I think my mind tries to make connections so if it is an uncommon name my mind can’t make sense of it.

I had a class of 6 girls – everyone of them was blond, wore their hair in an identical style and could have been clones. It didn’t help that one was Kaylie, another was Kayla, and then there was Kate, Kat, and Kaitlyn. The saving grace was Morgan but I couldn’t tell her from the other 5 by looks! It took me almost the whole semester to get them figured out!! I still hear from Morgan – she is now a veterinarian in Wisconsin!

Gah!! That would be just as bad! When I was in college I ran with a bunch of Debs. There was Debra, Debbie (my roommate), Deb, and Deborah. They all ended up with nick names to be able to differentiate them in conversation. They became Debaroo, DB, Fang, and Dibs!!

Once they came up to college my freshman year and we went to a few parties and some of the guys we flirted with would say, “okay now switch spots and see if you can still say that”. It was a good guy picker-upper then!
