This really doesn’t answer the questions above but it was fun to write anyways!
Badger’s Snack
The badger took his coat and hat and set off for the tree
the owl said, “There’s bugs in there”, so badger went to see
He really wanted to go down into his tunnel home
But maybe there’d be more to find like mole’s or mouse’s tomb
He found the tree and had to say it looked right like a store
The holes were made and badger thought, “No holes I have to bore”.
he checked the tree and saw there was a squirrel near the end
Who put a kettle on the stove for tea with his new friend.
The kettle rang and whistled soon the water getting hot
badger thought his friend looked good, but’d be better in a pot
The little friend was sensing fear and thought the time to leave
Then badger had a great idea, a trick right up his sleeve
He’d ask his friend to visit him in his own tunnelly home
The friend would have no way to know that they would be alone
They left the tree and walked side by side until they found the spot
Badger told his friend that down in earth its not so hot
They went down to the badger’s den to sit and have some tea
But badger had himself a snack and was happy as can be.

Badgers! We don’t need no stinkin’ badgers! (sorry I couldn’t help my self – UHF was a favorite of my sons so I must have been subjected to it at least 15 times… This badger was very cunning and I think the squirrel was a little slow…
