Do you think it helps or hinders a writer from having a big ego?
Probably a little of both, help and hurt. I guess it depends on how big of an ego you are talking about. I think you need to have some admiration for your own writing if you want to write and have others read your work, otherwise why post it for the whole world to see. On the other hand, if you are writing because you think that only your ideas are important then you are going to eventually be writing to yourself, no one else will want to read it.

How often do you read your blog content from an outsider’s perspective?

Almost always. I try to read it for both how it sounds and sometimes just to be shocked by what has come out of my mind, feelings that I didn’t even know I had in my head.

I view my blog as an allotment garden. How do you view yours?

More of like a public park, a place to come, spend time, enjoy yourself

What’s the first book you ever remember reading way back when?

Besides Sally, Dick and Jane? I don’t recall reading much but I do remember loving the story The Magic Garden so obviously I had read it. I recall in elementary school I used to love to read poetry by Shel Silverstein and I always loved Dr. Seuss.

Were you ever read to as a child, and by whom?

I don’t really remember. I remember always having books so I assume my mother read to me. My father always read the newspaper but I don’t remember him reading anything to me.

Where do you like to read? At home on the couch? Whilst travelling? In bed?

When I do pick up a book rather than listen to audible I like to either be on the couch or in a chair at the beach. Nowadays I mostly listen to all my books because I can listen in the car, while walking the dog, and while working on my miniatures. When I pick up an actual physical book I fall asleep a few pages in.

Where? What are the most significant barriers to your creativity?

The most significant barriers to my creativity are exhaustion and being interrupted when in my “zone”. A lot of times I will write because words come to me and mostly they come in the form of some sort of rhyming, sing-songy fashion so when I get interrupted and that flow is cut off I can’t always get back there.

Do you think blogging is essential, and if you do, why?

I think it is essential for me. For me it isn’t just about writing, it is about reading other people’s writing, and learning what I like and what I don’t about different styles. It is also the “social” piece for me. I like commenting back and forth with other people.

There are many benefits to blogging; however, what are the three top downsides of blogging, in your opinion?
1. Finding the time to stick to it. Sometimes when I am extremely busy I get dejected when I see that no one has stopped by my blog. I also feel like if I don’t pay attention to other bloggers then why should I expect anyone to pay attention to me?
2. Knowing what to put out in public vs. what is too personal. Sometimes, I find that I want to write something but then retract it when I realize I don’t want anyone to comment on it or see that side of me.
3. Forming “friendships” that may be very superficial to the recipients of my “friendship”. I know that blogging is different for everyone but if I am constantly “chatting” with someone and then I never hear from them again I will often wonder what I wrote to turn someone away.

Who do you think you might be in an alternate universe? I think there are beings who are more advanced than us in some ways but who are using us as guinea pigs to see what happens when they try different things. I think they want to see our emotions and our reactions and how we respond to new things. I bet they are appalled at how we are killing our planet and all the wildlife that should be here. I think they probably laugh at all the stupidity of us humans when it comes to politics and entertainment. *****Totally read the question wrong! I thought it said what do I think is in an alternative universe!****

What would be the most surreal situation you could imagine finding yourself in? Being in Heaven with people I have lost.

You won!!
You have five minutes for a Supermarket Dash in the FoodHall – what will you fill your trolley/shopping cart with? Seafood, meat, and ice cream

You have 60 minutes to hide 50 million in hard currency [Notes] in your house – where would you put the money/cash – to avoid detection? I would put a lot of it in my dirty clothes hamper. I would put some in the trash bins under the bags, so it isn’t actually in the garbage, and I would put it in whatever open containers or boxes of anything I could find, like crackers or chips. I’d probably need more room than that so I would try to make a small hole in a wall and jam it in then put furniture in front of the spot.

12 Questions
01
On a scale of 1 – 10 – where 1 is low and 10 is high how happy are you with everything in your life at this moment? I’d say a six but feel a little guilty because compared to others I have a good life. I say six because I live so far away still from my daughter and fiancee. Two weeks from now is the two year anniversary of losing my son. I take full time care of my dad who has Alzheimers and although I don’t hate it, it is taking a part of me away that I miss. Maybe a six for situational and an 8 for hardship???
02
Why do you do what you do the way that you do it?
Interpret as you so wish.
Because I put a lot of time and effort into what I do and try to do everything so that it is correct and appropriate. I don’t do only half of anything because that is a waste of time. I like to think that I think before I do so that what I do is a good thing.
03
How do you embrace difference? I thank God everyone is different. There are some people who I would never want to be like in any way and I can’t imagine if I was the same as them or if someone even assumed I was the same. I also love learning about things that I maybe never would have thought about before. I like seeing how people dress differently or talk differently. I like how traditions are different all over the world. I find it amazing that the world has so much going on at once that is different and although we know why (through science) we can’t see why.
04
What is one of the most significant ways that your readership influences you, your blog and your writing? I find that if I don’t stay active and write often then my visits and guests go down. This disappoints me. When this happens I get motivated to get back on track and remember how much I enjoy writing and how much I crave it when life gets hectic.
05
How would you feel if everything you didn’t believe in today turned out to be true – which of your new disbeliefs now truths would affect you the most profoundly?
hmmmm….
But also answer this question from the opposite spectrum as in –

How would you feel if everything you believed in today turned out to be false – would this affect you and if so which falsehood that you hold now true would affect you the most profoundly?
This I think would be horrible.. I now believe that most people are good and that someday I will feel less pain when I think about my son…
06
How often do you cross your fingers or say touch wood or good luck to people or do you not believe in that sort of thing? I do it all the time but then say to myself that I am not really doing it, hoping there is no bad mojo attached to it. ai guess one could say I am very superstitious.
07
Do you think that our childhoods impact our lives as adults – what are your views? Definitely but not like everyone thinks. I don’t believe that having a great childhood means you have a great adult life. I think what happens in our childhood shapes the type of person we are. I have two very entitled siblings but don’t see myself like that in the least. I had a lot more responsibility than they both did.
08
There is no truth to horoscopes – yes or no and why to either? Sure, why not. It is all in how you interpret the message. Many horoscopes are so general that you can squeeze them into your life somehow. I don’t necessarily believe in bad omens and all that. I don’t know if there is a being (like God or whoever you believe in) who would ever wish bad on anyone. Well, maybe the devil but that is only if you allow yourself to follow that evil.
09
Does it really matter if we are environmentally-conscious – l mean is it that important – if not why not and if yes, why?? Definitely!!! There is so much of our planet that is dying and disappearing. How can you look at a sea turtle with a plastic six-pack holder around it’s neck and not cut it to shreds before throwing it out? How can you keep cutting up trees when you see that the koalas have nowhere to live? I think humans are wasteful and very many are greedy and lazy. Now that I am in Florida I understand the reason for bottled or filtered water but why buy those 36 packs when you can either buy a gallon or buy a water filter? This might be a moot point now that some plastic bottles are recyclable but have you ever seen some of the beaches in our world where there isn’t even sand left to see? Just garbage! Or the Great Garbage Patch? I understand that things come about and people don’t know the effects but once we do know, shouldn’t we change what we do?
10
Do you find it easy or hard to relax and what relaxes you the most? Lately I find it hard to relax. There are a few things that if I don’t get interrupted help …Listening to audiobooks (which I never liked until recently), drawing, building miniatures, writing, and getting a backrub and/or massage.
11
How well or badly do you respond to being ‘shocked’ or ‘surprised’? I hate being shocked. Surprised is sometimes okay but even then I feel awkward. Back in high school I worked at a garden center and there was one boy I worked with that would always sneak up on me…hated it. Then I worked in a restaurant. I closed almost all shifts and one of the jobs was cleaning up the salad dressings. We would put all the large containers in the sink, clean the tops, cap them, then wash the whole outside…one of the cooks used to come up behind me and scare me every night. It got so stressful waiting for “it” to happen that I finally told my boss I was going to quit if “Paul” didn’t stop scaring me. Even later when I was teaching the kids knew I would not laugh if you jumped out and scared me. I get so mad. Actually, one time when I first met David we were in the car to pick up my son. David had to run in and use the bathroom. I was on my phone or whatever and he scared me when he got back by secretly banging on my window. Scared the hell out of me. The amount of swears that came out of my mouth!!!!!! He got upset with all those words but I told him I hated being purposely scared.
12
How do you feel about the term “I am a lucky/unlucky person” as in – do you think that there is some truth to it or is it all nonsense? I think there is a little truth to it, but it is in our perspective….For example, there once was a family and when the stepmother died one of the siblings was given the home along with the company of the living parent while one sibling got all the money and no responsibility to the parent. Is it luck? Sort of but then again, it is just money and that runs out and when you have no more money and you can’t afford anything and you are alone, you will be one thing…alone. That by the way is only a hypothetical situation that I would have no idea about in my own “real” life.

Thanks for the questions, Rory! You got me thinking today!

Question Fun – S4 – G3

Rory has questions very out of order today! https://aguycalledbloke.blog/2021/02/17/question-fun-s4-g3/

Question 7
Does ‘methodical order and sequencing’ really matter?

It totally depends on what you are doing. I am a bit OCD about things so if something is supposed to be in a certain order then put it in order. I have to step back if someone is not doing “the right thing”.

Question 3
Given the choice which  historiographical era could you live in comfortably if you had to go back ‘in time’ and why do you think you could?

I’m so not knowledgeable about historiographical eras but according to what I found on the web I would probably be happiest in the Modern Age. I love how so many things in art were expressed during this time. I think I would love being educated by one of those fabulous artists.

Question 9
What type of advertising really ticks you off as in – it doesn’t matter what the product is … because of the way it is actually advertised you become instantly annoyed and hostile with the medium? … this is NOT a political campaign question!

The one absolutely worst commercial that makes me so mad is for Liberty Mutual Insurance. It shows kids on Christmas morning and the first kid opens his gift which is the insurance. The second kid gets asked what he got and he says just a bike and kicks his bike. I think this sends such a bad message to kids. Do you know how many kids would kill to have a new bike? With the pandemic I am sure there were kids in this country that didn’t get a thing. It is such a bad message it makes me sick.

Question 83
What topics or passions could you write freely and knowledgeably on for say 3000 words if you had to?

I think I could write freely about what I think kids should be learning from a very young age. I have strong opinions about what children should be exposed to and think that a lot of the issues in young people is that they think they are the centers of tiny universes. There isn’t always a feeling like we are all part of a big world.

Question 2
What could you NOT do for money – given the obvious – so this is not about harming yourself or harming or murdering others – so aside from that side of things – what could you not just do for cash?

I could never be in a room full of spiders. I could never eat snails.

Question 1
When was the last time that you read something and it touched you in some deep dark way?

I’m not sure if I have an answer for this….

Question 101
How did you murder that person and how did you get rid of the body?

I slipped a little poison from the rat poison into the delicious dinner I made. After he died I drove out to docks and pushed his body off the dock. After that I threw extra chum into the water to attract as many fish as possible to eat the body.

Questions:

  • I asked this on an award thingie I was nominated for, and I got such interesting responses, I thought I’d ask it on Share Your World too:  Do you have a favorite kind of tree? White Birch. I don’t really know why, I just love the way the bark has the black hash marks.
  • What bridges are you happy you burned? My college group of friends. They held so many grudges and their perceptions were so unlike mine that it became toxic. I used to cry about why this one won’t talk to me, or that one will. One of the group, who was like my best friend, got pregnant shortly after I had my second child. I crocheted a blanket and sent the gift to the shower. At the time Bob and I were both working full time and still struggling to pay bills, etc. I didn’t go to the baby shower because I would have had to take a shift off of work, I waitressed at the time. About a year later I saw this friend. I asked her what she had, she said a boy. I asked if she liked the blanket I made. She said she never even opened the box, it was up in the closet, because she was mad at me for not going to her baby shower.
  • Would you sacrifice yourself (die) for a stranger? Honestly, I don’t know. I mean if it was like going to work at a hospital where patients have COVID-19 then yes. If it was for the life of a child I think that would be a yes. But in the scheme of things who really knows? I think years ago it would have been more of a definite yes but now that my daughter has lost her father and her brother, I would be so afraid of leaving her with no-one.
  • How have your priorities changed since the C-19 virus took over? Not so much my priorities but my time management has. I realize also that I don’t need to do all the running around, shopping for things I don’t need.

Gratitude Section:

I am grateful for: David and my daughter, my fairly healthy body, and the few friends who show me that they care about me just as much as I care about them.

Fandango’s Provocative Question #68

Do you think it’s premature for states to be lifting the stay-at-home, shelter-in-place, and social distancing restrictions? Or do you believe that it’s about time they were rescinded? Once they are removed, how quickly are you likely to resume living your life as you did in the pre-pandemic days? https://fivedotoh.com/2020/05/06/fandangos-provocative-question-68/

I think that people need to get out and about. I am worried about the people who are home alone, perhaps with increasing depression, not getting enough sunlight and fresh air. I think that there still has to be some precautions, like distancing, but I think it has to be open a bit. My fear with the fact that only some states are doing the openings it is going to draw people from far away to come because they want to be outside. It would be better for everyone if the entire country did the same thing. This way people are going in hoards to one place.

The other day on the news they showed everyone down in Washington in the mall watching the planes flying over. Well, it seems like everyone is in an uproar that so many people were there. Part of me thinks, hello, it is outside. If the virus is floating in the air you can get it just walking by. But does that mean no one even goes outside?

I think we should, as a country, open slowly, each state the same time, the same way, so that it can be followed more consistently. When this whole thing started I was in Florida and when I talked about the virus everyone said I was panicking out of control. At that time New York and Washington State were taking it seriously but Florida wasn’t. It was a couple of weeks until Florida took it seriously. We need to come together as a country, not fight about who is right and who is wrong.

My daughter has been living with her roommates and they have their friends over, They have the same group everyday. I think that her and her friends are probably building up an immunity that everyone who is staying isolated is not.

This is all my opinion.

QUESTIONS

1. What do you do to get rid of stress? I work on my miniature kits or I blog. I also journal but sometimes that is too stressful and I just need to leave thoughts aside for a bit.

3. What’s the opposite of a koala?  (this is strictly for fun.  I know what I came up with as an answer, but it was nonsensical.   Alaok.  See?   It’s okay to pass on this one too if you want) a hotala, but now that I wrote it that is sort of a bad joke. I am trying to support Australia’s efforts to bring back forests for the Koalas.

4. What’s the creepiest tech out there?  (My interpretation of “tech” is app or program.  If you know what “tech” is supposed to mean, hey!  Great!   Educate us.  I think the creepiest, except being very handy, tech is when you can hook tech help with your computer for remote access. Are they then watching me?
