I really enjoy making Italian tomato sauce with meatballs. I love the way it smells and tastes when I take the time to do it the “right” way. The smell is very nostalgic as my mother made a fresh pot of sauce every Sunday when I was growing up. I don’t know what she ever did with all that sauce because I know if I cook a huge pot we never eat it all. I try to freeze it but it isn’t the same. Now, I’ve learned to make smaller batches.

I love making home-made pizza which include pizza sauce from scratch using canned tomatoes. This is the one thing good to come out of the Covid nightmare I learned how to make good pizza! 🙂

Christine my friend had an Italian grandmother who made sauce once a week too – they ate it with everything – on pasta, on bread, as a dip for veggies. She was surprised when she discovered that not all families had sauce all the time! She still laughs about her Nona making sauce!

I used to make it every Sunday when I had my own home because it was just what you did…that kindof went to shit having to bartend and waitress most weekends while the kids were babies.

That would do it. I always said that as soon as the boys were older I’d do this and that… as they got older I had much less time. Now that they are out of the house and I’m retired I find that I’m still busy! The difference is that I make time for the things I want to do!!
