Book Review: China White

Pictures Of 5 Stars - ClipArt Best

I bought this audiobook because there is a second one that Audible was offering for free. I figured I would listen to the first one before going to the second and I am disappointed I wasted an Audible credit on this.

I give this audiobook 2 out of 5 five stars. The narrator, who is the main character and a middle aged woman, sounds like a thirteen year old girl so it is hard to keep focused on the story as something even close to a “thriller”. The premise of the main character is ridiculous and not very believable since they don’t give any reasonable explanations. Spoiler Alert (maybe, sort of): The main character is an ex-cop who apparently got fired after stealing money from a crime scene. She is now living in her car on the street, working at a grocery store as a security officer. Everything about the story is just too ridiculous to find any real connection to real life.

I couldn’t finish the book. I was at about chapter 7 when I decided to just skip to the end to see what happens but when I got to the last 40 minutes of the book, the story was still pretty much where I had left it about 20 chapters earlier. I always hate leaving a bad review but in this case I wish I had read some of the comments before buying it. Now I have two of these books but have no desire to look at them again.

    • You know there is something to be said for that. I have to get a library card. My friend up in CT said that with her library card she can borrow audiobooks. I usually save my Audible credits for something I am really wanting to read by an author I know, like Stephen King.
