Simply 6 Minutes – Welcome to the Challenge: 01/03/2023

Welcome to the 6-minute challenge!

Today’s prompt is:

Floor Optical Illusion
An optical illusion made of 400 tiles.
Courtesy of Duncan Cook/Casa Ceramica

This is a picture of a hallway in a school perhaps, and because of the way it is painted it looks like there is a big “dip” in the floor.

*****For any participants that do NOT like restrictions, please feel free to participate in any way you would like. It is great to read the contributions!****

  1. Set up a timer or sit near a clock so you can keep track of the six minutes you will be writing.
  2. You can either use one of the prompts (photo or written) or you can free-write.
  3. Get ready and write for 6 minutes, that is it! Can you write a complete story? Can you think of a new Sonnet? Can you write 400 words? 400? 500? There are no restrictions on what kind of writing you do, but you should try to be actively writing for six minutes.
  4. After you are done writing, include your word count and then post back to this page #Simply6Minutes or include your link in the comments section. Pingbacks are enabled.
  5. *Feel free to leave your work completely unedited. I believe it is good to see, especially for new writers, that even very seasoned writers don’t write a perfect first draft.*
  6. Have fun, challenge yourself if you’d like, read and respond to others’ posts.

Thank you for participating!

  1. […] Order was essential. Silvia hated change and was meticulous about maintaining order. The lockdowns had thrown her for a loop!No schedules… no consistency… and constant unease had affected her both mentally and physically. Nothing appeared ‘normal’. She felt her heart taking extra beats and started dropping everything she touched. Silvia was falling apart. Now, the political disagreements in Congress had become too much for her to take! “To Hell with changes! Leave it alone!” she wailed at the TV. Every part of her needed mundane, mindless, ‘normalcy’ to return. She finally fell asleep in the fetal position waking just in time to make it to her therapist appointment. That was her only constant these days. As she settled into her usual chair in the safety of ‘her’ waiting room the receptionist announced that her doctor had taken a sudden leave of absence. As she ran wailing from the room, the hallway floor began to move on its own and she collapsed. Silvia was immediately rolled to the 9th floor Psych ward.Lying in the bed next to her, she recognized her therapist.https://christinebialczak.com/2023/01/03/simply-6-minutes-welcome-to-the-challenge-01-03-2023/ […]
