“Simply 6-minutes” Writing Challenge 07/14/2020

Welcome to the challenge: 07/14/2020

Rules of this challenge:

  1. Set up a timer or sit near a clock so you can keep track of the six minutes you will be writing.
  2. You can either use one of the prompts (photo or written) or you can free-write.
  3. Get ready and write for 6 minutes, that is it! Can you write a complete story? Can you think of a new Sonnet? Can you write 400 words? 400? 500? There are no restrictions on what kind of writing you do, but you should try to be actively writing for six minutes.
  4. After you are done writing, include your word count and then post back to this page #Simply6Minutes or include your link in the comments section. Pingbacks are enabled.
  5. *Feel free to leave your work completely unedited. I believe it is good to see, especially for new writers, that even very seasoned writers don’t write a perfect first draft.*
  6. Have fun, challenge yourself if you’d like, read and respond to others’ posts.
  7. I would appreciate feedback on how often writer’s would like this challenge. Is it a once a week challenge? Just Saturdays? Let me know a day that perhaps there aren’t a lot of other challenges already scheduled.

Today’s Prompt:

Thank you for participating!

      1. Just so you know, in case you haven’t seen the other responses, some came back without any edits or anything. No length expectations or anything else, just for fun.

      3. No problem. And the fish problem…I will tell you from experience that when the store or the book says to keep the water fresh and clean, don’t. The only thing you want to keep out is algae. Depending on the size of the bowl or tank that is a problem based on how much light it gets. As far as water changes go, I don’t do a full change. Only about half. There are biologicals in the water that they need.

      4. Thanks for the tip! I learned that the hard way by accidentally killing some fish and frogs. When we first got the tank, I thought you had to do a full cleaning, which I did. Now I only do half or 25%. Keeps our tank inhabitants happy and alive.

    1. A pingback is when you put the link of the challenge in your post. It then automatically goes to that person. I don’t really know how to explain it but I finally got the hang of it and it is super easy. There are other blogs that probably explain it better than I do.
So, let’s say you want to do my challenge. You go to my page and copy the URL from up in the search bar. Then you open a new post for yourself using the write button. Go to the section right below the heading and type something like “written for” then a popup box should appear. Paste that link you copied from my page into the URL spot (its like two sideways U’s) Then in that same box click on the “open in a new tab” slot. Hit enter and the URL will come up on your post. When people go to click on it it will bring them to my page where the challenge is.
Goodness, let me know if that makes any sense!

  1. First effort. 134 words.
It was a moment between time. Before the day began. Before the crowds descended. Or, after the alarm had been called – tsunami warning? Call to prayer?
I stood there; caught. My imagination running wild. Where could everyone have gone?
I’d landed my dinghy on this beach. M friend and I had set out early to explore the islands. We thought to grab a drink, perhaps a meal. But now; was that possible?
Looking around, we could see no person. Hear, no sound. Smell, no food cooking. There was water washing onto sand. Birds screeching above us. Sand underfoot. We were alone. And wondering.
I asked my friend, “what should we do?”
“Run?” He shrugged his shoulders. “Take a look-see?”
“I don’t know. This is too weird!”
    We stood, indecision paralysing.
    And then; the scream!

    1. I think I have it scheduled for Tuesdays but you can do it anytime, it will still come to me. It will only be once a week because sometimes people don’t get to everything in one day. This way you have a week. Saturday for yours will be just fine!

      1. That was great and I absolutely loved the part about using your mind instead of a camera. It is so true. There are some things I wish I could remember better and I come across pictures and vaguely recall the day. Anyhow, I didn’t really see any mistakes, I don’t look for them either! Thank you for participating!
