A New Life

Looking back now he saw an old man
starting his life, on the road, in a van
He travelled along, music playing out loud
Humoring walkers, pleasing a crowd
Along his long trip, he fell and he slid
Making the best of all that he did
When suddenly he knew there’s no time like now
to take a bull by the horns, but he didn’t know how
So he asked his dear wife to be honest with him
And say how he did, and she looked at him grim
She smiled and said that he’s getting too old
People wanted a young man, brazen and bold
They no longer enjoyed this man of old age
It was time to recede, get off of the stage
He kissed his dear wife and held her to him
then they walked hand in hand, a new life to begin.

A Man

You only see my color
not my insides, not my brain
I pray that you will listen
but my praying is in vain
I’m worth more than you give me
I’m worth more than you get
I’m just another person
How could you forget?
When God put me before him
I was a person with a heart
But now that he’s not here
I’ve had to find a place to start
For God is with us always
And it was in his plan
To make us all remember
It’s not the color, it’s the man.

New Beginnings

I shed the darkness and look for the light

I hope for the brightness of you

I hand my past over to clear a path

My growing love for you will ensue.

Pure Evil

The streets are vacant
the people are gone
the news is reporting
the wars still goes on
the people will suffer
Putin is pure evil
the world wants to stop
this man-made devil.

He seemed to sip his wine with grace
gazing at that beautiful face
Wondering how fate could work this way
Thinking that she could make his day
Courage would be just what he needs
Perhaps the liquor would plant those seeds
For now he’d sip and take in her beauty
Hoping someday he would be her cutie.

Wearing Rose Colored Glasses

I’ve often been told
that I wear these red specs
my rose colored glasses
tied tight ’round my neck
but I don’t see it that way
not that way at all
I call it positivity
Helping you not to fall.
But sometimes it comes
back to bite me real hard
’cause I ignored the true facts
like a red joker card.
And so I must take
my glasses off to be clear
that the choices I make
are the ones I won’t fear.
Now I know what you’re thinking
old habits won’t change
but I really will try
to make my mind rearrange.
I’ll see the true facts
as they truly are shown
not making them rosy
making all options known.
I’ll try to see clearly
try to make a smart choice
and stick so completely
proud that it’s really my voice.

Martin

Martin looked up at her. “She keeps looking this way and smiling. What for? Is there something up there that she has for me?” Martin had no idea what that “something” could be, I mean he’d only been in this world a few months and had already been whisked away from his mom and dad, brothers and sisters. “Is she planning something up there?” Martin just sat, knowing that if he continued to look up at her she would continue to look down at him and smile, and that gave him a good feeling.

“Come here, Marty, you little cutie!” Martin already hated the nickname but what was he to do? He had to smile and act like it was okay. He had no one to ask if there was a way to stop this foolishness. I mean, just a little while ago he had been plain old Martin. “Maybe she will pick me up so I can see what she is doing up there.” Martin continued to sit, holding his composure and trying to hide the anxiousness he felt inside. “If she has something up there I like then Marty won’t be such a bad name to live with!”

What do you see?

It has been a few weeks since I have done What do you see? Thanks Sadje for hosting! https://lifeafter50forwomen.com/2020/12/21/what-do-you-see-61-21st-december-2020/

We knew mom had gotten into the apartment the minute we saw our mural. All the work we had done, now covered by her image and her famous saying. Did she ever want us to grow up or move on? Billy and I decided after we graduated college that it was time to find our own place. Being twins didn’t mean we had to live together, it was just how life went. Mom was a wreck though. She cried about losing her boys and what would we do if we needed her? Would we have time to make good meals and clean up after ourselves? When it came down to it she wanted her twins to remain toddlers, listening to their mommy with awe and fascination again. Poor mom, she must be really upset to come paint herself on our wall!

The Cat brings Cake

Today the Cat stopped by at noon
he knew it was the day
the children’re home and not at school
they’d want to laugh and play.

He thought he’d bring a tasty treat
to start the day off right
A cupcake full of sweet sugar
He could eat in one big bite.

The children were so happy when
the Cat knocked on their door.
They had their books and writing out
laid all out on the floor.

The Cat told them to clean it up
today was a day for fun
The children knew the cat was right
In a minute they were done.

They took a blanket off the bed
and laid it out real straight.
The three of them sat down right there
The three of them just ate.

When the food was good and gone
the Cat he began to cry
The kids were full and needing a nap
They quickly said goodbye.

As the Cat left there he said to them
“See you soon on another day!”
He said he’d come another time
to have more fun and to play.
