Photo Challenge 335

https://mindlovemiserysmenagerie.wordpress.com/2020/10/06/photo-challenge-335/

They say to go with it.
I’m trying.
Why is this going in slow motion?
What was I thinking anyhow?
Did I really need to run that fast up the stairs.
Damn carpeting.
I told Bruce the wood was better.
I guess Bruce was thinking of me at a time like this.
Carpet is softer.
How will I land?
I don’t want to get hurt.
Go with it.
Let it happen.
It hurts less.

WTF! Ouch!

Hiding

Peter? Peter? Where did you go? I thought you said this game was for me to hide and then you find me, but if I’m here, in some tube with the openings covered, how is that any fun?

I don’t know why you won’t answer me!

Peter? Come on, are you there? I can’t even get out of here on my own! You took the stool.

Whose idea was it anyway that I hide in some tube?

Whose idea was it to cover the openings?

Peter, if you are out there, this is a warning, we are no longer friends.

The Sunday Whirl: Wordle #476

https://sundaywhirl.wordpress.com/2020/10/04/wordle-476/

She walked into the dark room, wondering if there was any power to the building. She knew she was taking a risk, but no one was going to cast doubt on the fact that this was a crisis and someone needed to take control right away. She walked over to the board. Running her hand up and down the wall, feeling for the strip of light switches was yielding no results. Moving quickly, knowing the contract on her head was a direct assault, she wanted to grab the book and jump on her flight, A roll of the die wasn’t going to help this time around.

Wordle #208

Meld
Coil
Tuck
Sumptuous
Gold
Empty
Crisp
Renaissance
Souvenir
Thumb
Leggings
Coup de Foudre- “love at first sight”

Becky wished she had been alive during the Renaissance because of her love of classical philosophy. She loved the way people came together to meld literature and art. If she could have been there, she thought, she could have come away with gold embellished leggings as a souvenir. But for now, she held her thumb against the fabric of her nylon leggings, trying to tuck the tag back in.

Becky was looking forward to her date that evening with Roberto. She had met him in the half empty train station, and it had been coup de foudre. She knew her best friend Jenna did not believe in “love at first sight.” That particular day Roberto had been standing in the ticket line that was coiled around the pillar in the station. He had been wearing a crisp, new polo shirt and Becky felt he looked sumptuous! If they had met during the Renaissance, they would have fallen in love just as quickly as they had that day. Becky loved that Roberto was as romantic as she was.

The Gift

Marcel wanted to surprise Maria for her birthday. He had the idea to cook her favorite roasted garlic..

Marcel wanted only the freshest garlic, so he went to the farmer’s market in town. Upon arriving home, Marcel hung the garlic in the kitchen. Within minutes he was in the bathroom, throwing up. He knew he must have caught a bug at the market.

Maria stopped by to check on Marcel. As she was putting some ginger ale in the fridge, she noticed the garlic.

“Marcel, did I already tell you I think there is a vampire in my neighborhood?”

Blogging Life

Once upon a time there was a dog named Bracket. He was a tall dog with a pale coat, almost like an earthy tone. One day Bracket was blogging and feeling a lot of pressure to make money. He knew he had the right ticket with “click ads” but they took over such a large portion of his blog, he decided to torch the idea as it was making him mad.

It wasn’t until Bracket realized it was his blogging anniversary that he decided to take a fresh look at what he was doing. Was he somehow locked into something? He learned a lot this one day as he took a futile leap to look honestly at his work. He realized the cascade of followers at the beginning was a sort of peal in response to his originality. Now, like an old pair of slippers, followers were putting him aside, no longer needing him.

In the end, Bracket realized the party was over, he was not willing to keep pushing forward.

Wordle #474

This is one of my favorite prompts and I am on the road again so I fell asleep last night before getting to it! https://sundaywhirl.wordpress.com/2020/09/20/wordle-474/

A True Tale?

Once upon a time there was a ruthless leader who thought he could trump all the other rulers. He was a hypocrite of sorts, saying the country needs justice, but defiling all his democratic contenders. He was a sad man, not sorrow that would be felt for others, rather a pathetic sort of sadness that for whatever reason even his sycophants couldn’t see. When his blunders were made public he acted like a turtle, hiding in a shell, denying all wrong doings, until the anger came to an end and he could come out again without strain. He left his country feeling dead to the world, no longer the nation they were once proud of.

Simply 6 Minutes: Welcome to the challenge: 09/15/2020

Today’s Prompt:

*****For any participants that do NOT like restrictions, please feel free to participate in any way you would like. It is great to read the contributions!****

  1. Set up a timer or sit near a clock so you can keep track of the six minutes you will be writing.
  2. You can either use one of the prompts (photo or written) or you can free-write.
  3. Get ready and write for 6 minutes, that is it! Can you write a complete story? Can you think of a new Sonnet? Can you write 400 words? 400? 500? There are no restrictions on what kind of writing you do, but you should try to be actively writing for six minutes. (Most of the time I barely get 200 words!)
  4. After you are done writing, include your word count and then post back to this page #Simply6Minutes or include your link in the comments section. Pingbacks are enabled.
  5. *Feel free to leave your work completely unedited. I believe it is good to see, especially for new writers, that even very seasoned writers don’t write a perfect first draft.*
  6. Have fun, challenge yourself if you’d like, read and respond to others’ posts.

Thank you for participating!

Jack, what the hell are we going to do with that thing?

Listen Larry, I told you to just stand there and look busy while I get this thing out of here.

Jack and Larry were busy with the tank of clones. No one knew what the Boss had been working on but he said they were ready. Jack and Larry had flipped a coin to see who would actually reach into the water and pull it out. Neither of them knew if this thing would bite or be poisonous. The only thing they could think of was either the pet alligator Boss always wanted or the Man-of-War jellyfish he was trying to make more deadly than nuclear weapons. Jack was really hoping for the alligator, even though it meant possibly losing a finger in the process.

Jack, have you got a hold of it yet?

Larry, will you give me a sec? I mean if you want to reach in and fish around for whatever is lurking under this mucky water go right ahead but if I’m the one that has to do it I’m only making little ripples until it comes to the surface.

Boss wouldn’t have had you reach in if it was the Man-of-war.

Well, he may have had you reach in but I’m the dumby who did the coin toss and lost!

Thanks a lot. So much for thinking we were friends.

Jack and Larry continued to wait but whatever it was below

Here is my contribution:

Marcia stood outside the ice cream shop. She didn’t know if she wanted a sundae or a cone. Then once that was decided, then it was picking a flavor! There were so many choices. Next came toppings. She knew that decision would have to depend on whether she picked a sundae or a cone. She just saw a family get out of their car, walk up to the window and order! How can anyone do this that fast?

Brian stood next to Marcia contemplating the flavor of ice cream he wanted. He knew he wanted a cup because those damn cones lose their ends and he always ends up with ice cream all over his shirt. Next he would have to decide on toppings. He would wait until Marcia decided though since they would be sitting right next to each other during the show and he didn’t want something that would clash with the smell of hers.

Debbie couldn’t believe the line! How could it take people so long to figure out what they want? Most of these people probably sit and contemplate and then order the same damn thing every single time. I mean who goes out for ice cream and doesn’t order their favorite flavor. Debbie knew everyone there probably had more than one favorite but it was still pretty easy to pick.

Do What you Do: 100 Word Wednesday

What 100 words would you give this image?

“Milly, what the heck are you doing?”

“I’m taking pictures, why?”

“Well I could hear you milling around in that room but couldn’t imagine what you’re doing since there isn’t anything in there but a few plants and a really uncomfortable bench to sit on.”

“Deb, I’m just doing what I do, you should know that! I thought you knew me.”

“Milly, I was simply asking. You go do what you do, and I will talk to you later. I won’t disturb you again.”

“Deb don’t get mad. I’m just busy and it sounds like you think I do nothing!”
