As the wolf howls
As the lone wolf howls
His breath leaves a hot vapor
On his last victim.
As the lone wolf howls

On his last victim.
I feel like I have been away from my blog for longer than it has probably been. This week has been a rollercoaster of emotions, things to do, desires, etc. This coming Sunday is my son’s birthday, he would have been 20. I am mentally preparing myself and I have made plans for Sunday so as to not curl up in bed in a vegatative state. Last night one of my son’s best friends was texting me and it was so nice to hear from someone who misses him like I do!
On a lighter note I have been doing a lot of writing and critiquing. I joined this website call Critique Circle and although I didn’t pay for the special membership I have almost all the same perks. To submit a story you must earn credits to “pay” for your submission. You earn credits by critiquing other peoples submissions. I submitted my story Hermit Crab’s Friends and got two critiques back. One was very critical but made me think of points I hadn’t considered. The second one was much “nicer” but that doesn’t always get you where you need to go. The second one I think was less critical because the crit (what they call you when you read a story) was in tune with my ideas and how I wanted them to come across in the book. Either way it is very valuable feedback and I have read quite a few interesting chapters of books that are in the process…
So far I have sent out about 30 query letters to agents. I have had a few quick rejections but that is to be expected they say. I am supposed to get my first 100 out before November 20th. I have a lot of work to do! This and all of my writing challenges! Well, if you need me you will know where to find me.
By the way, did I mention I have a new guinea pig? His name is Beary and he is so sweet. He loves to cuddle and talks my ear off! At night after we sit and chat I put him in his cage and he does this thing call “popcorning”. It means he is happy, or so they say! He just jumps around. I will post a picture as soon as I get one transferred onto my computer.
Have a peaceful day! Please keep in touch with any ideas, comments, suggestions, etc….
Well, so much has transpired this past week, I don’t even know where to begin. I will do the random retell, I think that will be more interesting.
So Saturday was my birthday. I flew back from Florida that morning and then got spoiled by David and Lindsay all day. David got me a guinea pig! His name is Beary. That is short for Bearclaw. Bearclaw is the name of Penelope’s New Puppy (the book I wrote).
I had an update on Facebook that I have raised $345 for Babies Heart Run, the fundraiser dedicated to my birthday and November 10th which would have been Joey’s 20th birthday. My goal is $1000. Spread the word!
I decided to try and illustrate my picture books. I have been sending query letters out for three different books that I have written. I am not sure which I like best because they are all so different. When I look into what an agent is looking for I kindof match a manuscript with something they will hopefully be looking for. Some days I am so optimistic, other days I am convinced my writing is horrible and I will never get an agent. I think being and Author-Illustrator will be better than just Author. Saves time from having to find an illustrator I guess. I will be doing some online research to see what it necessary to know to be a picture book illustrator. Who knows? I am a pretty good artist.
I have been signing up for so many different groups, primarily for critiquing my work. If you know any picture book writers that want to work in some sort of critique group please send them my name or send them to my blog!
Have a great evening. Time for bed and just a little Mahjong!
When Albert finally got to the club it was almost his time to get on stage. That would mean no time to grab a drink or say hello to the regulars. He was ready to play, he had been practicing this riff for days! He waited in the wings while Tarzan finished his gig, which included some trapeze work and acrobatics.
As Tarzan pulled back the curtain, Albert stepped past him onto the stage. He walked to the stool as the crowd began clapping and cheering for him to start. He sat down, lit a cigarette, lifted his guitar and began. He slowly slipped into his musical trance, forgetting the crowd, the noise, even the stage he was on. This was his world and he loved being in it.
Itty, bitty Lindsay Lu went to school today
She thought she’d have some fun with friends and find some time to play.
Well Lindsay Lu was happy there, her teacher was the best.
Her favorite time was reading time and also time to rest.
But once she had her crayons out and one boy tried to grab
Her favorite purple swirl paper from her paper slab.
She cried out loud to let him know the paper he should leave
The teacher heard the scream and through the classroom she did weave
To find what happened to the girl with paper on her desk
Because she was always happy, the teacher’d have to ask.
Lindsay Lu had started crying, the boy he did the same
The teacher took them both aside and asked the boy his name.
She told them both that they should share all things from in the room
Including all the resources, every last volume.
Lindsay Lu did smile then and so the boy did too
And now they draw together and even share the glue.
In life we do things daily
we know just what we do.
We know our choices matter
and where we go with who.
When the time has come to sit
and dine with many friends,
remember food is proper
and theres a drink to start your bend.
Getting drunk with friends may be
your common ritual.
Just remember to imbibe
but include all victuals.
Kim from Writing in North Norfolk is today’s host of dVerse. Kim says:
This week I’d like you to take any meaning, form or compound of the word keep, and write a poem of exactly 44 words (not counting your title), including the prompt word.
My sleeping beverage
When I go to sleep
I often like to keep
Water by my side
My mouth feels very dried.
The water that I pour
Is not like those before
It has a little twist
A sort of liquid mist.
Do you get my gist?
For this week’s Lucky Dip, I have reached into my mystery bag and pulled out a Diatelle. The topic is up to you!
The Diatelle is a fun, syllable counting form like the etheree with a twist. The syllable structure of the diatelle is as follows: 1/2/3/4/6/8/10/12/10/8/6/4/3/2/1, but unlike an ethere, has a set rhyme pattern of abbcbccaccbcbba. This poetry form may be written on any subject matter and looks best center aligned in a diamond shape.
Wow! This was a huge challenge!!!!!
On a train
For all to see
It may cause you some pain
We wonder just how there can be
love of yourself with no sign of pity
you look at the mirror and see only your place
You try to keep yourself just so pretty
Like driving in an old city
No sign of an airplane
Walk with some clarity
See the rain
Today’s word is “ivory.”
An elephant tusk is the first thing you see
When you pass by the place that sells ivory.
Its beautiful texture and wonderful hues
Makes poaching and killing horrible news.
We love what we have with that hard white plaster
But don’t think about the poor herd master
He’s missing a member of his elephant tribe
Because we want ivory, its sort of a bribe.
What can we do for more ivory to make?
Find a white stone and make it a fake.
This way we keep all the elephants alive
Where in the wild they can all thrive.
What if the world was watching?
