Maizy thought she’d hit the gold
when something caught her eye
A shiny sort of stick-like thing
that pointed toward the sky
She picked it up and to her awe
She thought it was a bone
But when she brought it to her ear
She learned it was a phone
It had a cord, all curly-cue
With plastic at one end
And mama told her when she got home
It was used to call a friend!

Punam’s prompt: Finders, keepers, plot twisters
Tell a little story in verse! Write a poem in three stanzas, with no more than 12 lines in total. Your stanzas can be different lengths.
- Stanza one: Introduce a character who finds something unusual or strange.
- Stanza two: Show what happens when your character uses what they’ve found.
- Stanza three: Bring the story to an unexpected realization.
Let your imagination lead you, and see where your character’s discovery takes them!

Christine, I love how Maizy’s “mystery bone” turns out to be a phone, making something ordinary from our past feel like an ancient treasure to a child!
