This week the theme is to find a song that mentions jewelry like a watch, a ring or a necklace.
This Diamond Ring (Original Artist Re-recording)
Song by Gary Lewis & the Playboys ‧ 1965
Lyrics
Who wants to buy this diamond ring?
She took it off her finger, now it doesn’t mean a thing
This diamond ring doesn’t shine for me anymore
And this diamond ring doesn’t mean what it did before
So if you’ve got someone whose love is true
Let it shine for you
This stone is genuine like love should be
And if your baby’s truer than my baby was to me
This diamond ring can be something beautiful
And this diamond ring can be dreams that are coming true
And then your heart won’t have to break like mine did
If there’s love behind it
This diamond ring can mean something beautiful
And this diamond ring can be dreams that are coming true
And then your heart won’t have to break like mine did
If there’s love behind it
This diamond ring doesn’t shine for me anymore
And this diamond ring doesn’t mean what it did before
So if you’ve got someone whose love is true
Let it shine for you
This diamond ring doesn’t shine for me anymore
And this diamond ring doesn’t mean-

This was from a week that I really didn’t like many of the songs and I found it hard to find a song that I really was able to enjoy.

I’m not familiar with this song, but I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.

In grade school a boy named Chuck Merrit was in love with me- brought me a dime store diamond ring and used to chase me around singing this song! Wonder what ever happened to him? heheheh Great Choice, Christine.

That is hysterical! What did you think of him at that time? Boys were so gross…they still are but…lol.

I had known him my whole life! It was just so ridiculous because I didn’t want to hurt his feelings but come on I was like 10! 😅

Clearly a popular song over there, but I’ve never heard it before. They had only one minor hit here, in 1975 (looked them up!). This is very much of its time, isn’t it.

This whole theme has been very vague to me. I knew of only a few songs but not enough to just grab one out of the air and think it would go with the theme!

This song kept going through my mind for the prompt today. I am happy you included it Christine ☺️💕 Loved it!

I didn’t know of it until I did the google search.

It was new to me as most of the songs fitting this theme were.

So glad you chose this one, Christine. My husband suggested I do this song and I said no because I figured it would be a popular choice. I’m happy to see it here tonight!

Wow, and I had never heard it before.

Seriously?? It was a huge hit for Gary Lewis and the Playboys. Gary is the son of famous comic/actor Jerry Lewis. I’m very surprised you never heard this song; you must be quite a bit younger than me!

From all the comments I am also surprised I had never heard it. It seems like a lot of readers knew this song. I just turned 54. My father sang but mostly stuff like The Four Tenors and my mother loved Neil Diamond so I don’t really recall a huge variety when I was younger.

Yep …. much younger!

Well then you have aged beautifully because from your photo you look years younger than me!

You’re very kind! It’s good Sicilian genes. There’s olive oil coursing through my veins! 😂

I only have half of those genes! Well, actually only 1/4. One of my grandparents was from Sicily, one was from Palermo I believe.

I can’t believe how many people knew this song! I just picked it because it was one of the ones I found that I actually enjoyed listening to.

Sparky’s brother has an impressive vinyl collection – this is one that he bought and played when he was around 10 yrs old with money from his paper route!

I love the stories like that. The old days when kids saved up hard earned money to buy something they really wanted.

That was my generation! I used to babysit for $0.25 per hour – I thought I was making big money…. and it took forever to save enough to buy a new purse!

At my last job my manager had a baby and had asked me to babysit once, although I was working…Anyhow, I asked him how much a sitter cost and he said $25 to $30 an hour for a good sitter!

Yeah, that’s about right. I recall paying the last sitter I hired $5 and hour and feeling like I was over paying!!

Thanks for selecting this, Christine as I have been thinking about this song all day long.

I had to search for this theme. I thought it would be a bigger range of options but it really wasn’t. I liked hearing all the different songs though. I found a few I wouldn’t mind hearing more of.

I often forget on the weekends to even look at blogging because it seems like I am just super busy. Right now I’m home all the time so it isn’t like I am commuting to a job, but the weekends still have their own vibe.
