For today’s prompt, write a poem inspired by a principle you really care about.
Honesty
Honesty, a real life thing, is something we all know
But hard for many, not for some, others let it go
It hurts the head, I think I’ve heard, to tell it like it is
But just like soda with no top, you start to lose your fizz.
I hate to think of all those things you say you like or do
and wonder if its all in truth, real reflections of you
I must admit I never feel like honesty comes quick
For you have lied so many times, so much it makes me sick
I wish you’d keep it to yourself, stop telling me those lies
You’ve never had the courage needed to look me in my eyes
Just be warned I tell the truth and sometimes it might hurt
But hurt feels better in the end, I won’t treat you like dirt.

Christine this is a wonderful topic – and you made it real. Love your conclusion and the poem has a really nice flow and rhythm!!

When its something you believe in it is easier to write about. This is like when you’re given a prompt that you know nothing about…no ideas happen!

I’ve been told I’m “too” honest. I don’t think there is such a thing. Truth should be tempered with kindness.

Well, it is questionable about what too honest would be. If you know your honesty is going to outright hurt another being and not have any difference when it is over then things can be left unsaid but…
