Sunday Poser

This week my question is;

What should be the first thing a child be taught?

This question is asked from a societal point of view. Any child, not necessarily yours needs to be taught a few basic things before they are let loose in the world.

One of the things I adamantly taught my kids was to be honest. I also did this with kids I taught. I would always say that yes, if you screwed up there would be consequences, but if you screwed up then lied about it on top of that, then I’d be mad. For the most part, I believe my kids were generally honest with me.

Anyhow, I had my umbrella so I stopped at my friends house to see if she wanted to walk under my umbrella. Well, she told me to come in, that her dad was giving her a ride, and I should wait while she asked if I could have a ride too. So there I am in the hallway and she runs up to ask her dad and I hear him say that I’m a liar, that I only stopped because I knew she was getting a ride and I wanted a ride too. Well, this moment is ingrained in my memory because I remember standing there devastated. I wasn’t lying. I wasn’t a liar. Obviously, this impacted me a lot.
