Write a poem about this surreal painting from Kay Sage, entitled, My Room Has Two Doors (1939).
One way down, the door is closed
through the tunnel, direction imposed
Sliding back to shaded spot
Will you get in? Maybe not
Trudging up for a look inside
Take your time, maintain your pride
Sneaking past the structured block
what keys of wisdom will unlock?
Sidle in proceed with care
breath heavily the clearest air
Sit down tight, your space is saved
You’ll never feel yourself enslaved

The rhymes really helps to make it easy to read and enjoy. To find such a way for oneself is what we all should try doing.

Christine this is a really tight verses – good rhyme and a mystic interpretation of the painting!!

The picture felt secretive but not ominous if you know what I mean.

Absolutely. There is a fine line between creepy and mysterious!

Such lovely rhyming verses to read. Love the welcoming feeling from that last stanza. Thanks for joining in!

An excellent response to the art. I like the persistence and “maintain your pride.”

As others mention, these are tight verses and good rhymes but for some reason the ‘maintain your pride’ rubbed me the wrong way. I’m not sure why!

I sort of “see” what you mean. It is almost as though this shouldn’t even have to be said as it is a given and shouldn’t have to be pointed out or emphasized. Maybe pride wasn’t the exact word I should have used.

I see that part both ways I guess. Maybe it is how you read it. As I said to tenzenmen, maybe there was a different word I could have used to convey what I meant…Maybe it is pride, maybe it is self-awareness, maybe confidence.
