Anupama’s prompt guidelines

  • Challenge:Reimagine emotions as objects;
    • What if feelings took shape? Anger could be a blade, sharp and biting. Loneliness might be an echo in an empty room;
  • Poetic form: Any;
  • Length: No more than 12 lines.

Ooey, gooey baby

The rubber soft edge of the giggle was heard
Through the walls like the page of a book
Floppy and melty no time now for hard
Was all I could see when I first took a look

The ooze it was gooey and melted away
Down the chin of the sweet little boy
The goo it was oozy and just wouldn’t stay
As he sat still and played with his toy.

But soft as it was the crisp edge came in
With his mom who looked tired and frail
She didn’t need a new nappy or pretty clean bib
Her sharp tone like a plastic sand bucket pail
