Winter Coat

Oh Granny, is this your winter coat?

No, Sweetie, that was my grannies winter coat! That was a long time ago but I have kept it and taken care of it for this long so it still looks nice.

Did you love your granny?

I sure did! We used to spend a lot of time together.

Do you have a winter coat that I can save for my grandchildren?

Well, you can certainly hold on to this coat for me. Make of it a parka for your soul. And soon I will add my own winter coat, as soon as the snow melts. You can save it for your grandbabies.

Oh, Granny, I think my grandchildren are going to love both of these coats! I hope I can learn to keep them as nice as you have!

I’m sure you will, my sweet granddaughter.

  1. The passing of time and the connections between generations are very strong here. These are some of my favorite topics these days, as I’ve passed my 61st year and now have two tiny grandboys. I feel the cycle of life especially in this line: “And soon I will add my own winter coat, as soon as the snow melts.”

  2. A sweet story of an heirloom coat, Christine. Sadly, not so many people keep and take care of coats anymore; young people these days prefer to buy new every season. I used to wear an old coat of my grandmother’s back in the day.
