Kim is our host. She asks us to insert the following lines from French Poet Jean Nicolas Arthur Rimbaud’s poem Novel, into the body of our piece of flash fiction of 144 words or less, sans title

“There you can see a very small patch
Of dark blue, framed by a little branch,
Pinned up by a naughty star”

Nightmare

(144 words)

She could hear footsteps, the crunching of leaves, behind her. It was all too much for Deena and she sank to the ground with resolve. This would be the end and she would accept it. Lowering her head to rest on a mossy log she envisioned life before she fell prey to this beast. She tried to see stars, some piece of hope but she realized there you can see a very small patch of dark blue, framed by a little branch, pinned up by a naughty star. The depth of the hue matched the depth of her despair. Closing her eyes she let her mind go. As dusk turned to dawn, Deena awoke confused and disoriented. Her dress was moistened from dew and her hands were covered in dark mud. Raising her head she saw a small patch of sunlight between the trees.

This is my first time, I think, reading Rimbaud and I enjoyed it! I found this and liked it as well, so thought I would share.
