New World
Below the green and slimy pads
a life there does exist.
With darkness always closing in
its often mostly missed
But there they live amongst the weeds
and hide with pure delight
At what they think is moonlit skies
it always seems like night
but when they come and peek above
they see there may be hope
For these old frogs there is a world
in which they dream to cope
But when they jump up to the top
the pads of lily rock
and hawks and owls look for them
as food for them they mock
and so they dive back to their home
their safety where they hide
and hope to catch another glimpse
of nature’s great outside.

Lovely, I have frogs in my gully and creek. But no lilypads. Once while taking litter out of the gully which is about 4 Ft deeper than the banks on either side I came face to face with a little frog… Sat so still… I told her I she was pretty and moved on. 😉

I like frogs until I moved into this house. Our yard became infested with Cuban tree frogs which are an invasive and destructive species. Now frogs disgust me.

Sorry to hear that. I had a relative who had an old home in CT, that got invaded by Ladybugs.

We had that problem in CT too! It was awful. They smell really bad when they die. It was gross when seen in huge amounts.

Each location has ‘unique’ attributes… I imagine all the lady bugs like Alfred Hitchcocks …”The Birds”… I had relitives in St. Petersburg FL… I tried helping to trim some bushes and got attached by ‘No See Ums’.
Sorry about the loss of the beach. I’ve visited the gulf many times. Even just after hurricanes had passed and the water level was so high that piers were shuttered and the water was over the breakwalls at the town end of the sand. I don’t recall the name of that system, but it was in December one year.

I have only seen some pictures but some of the beaches are completely gone…hard to even understand what that means…

In New Jersey where I grew up…there used to be miles of beaches from the town line to the shore. But much of it was built on my humans. I just looked at some of the flooding photos… of Helene.
What does any uncontrolled weather event mean? Earthquakes, Tsnami, avalanche…Some say it is the natural cycle of the planet. But as that moves at a slow pace… who would or could be prepared?
I just heard a story… That after sanitizing them… that disposable diapers are being used as housing material because of the desnity of the mateiral used to make them. I’ve also seen stories where homes were made of 2 liter soda bottles. The thick walls make good insulation… There are some smart folks around… I remember going to the Florida Keys… because they are build on ancient coral there is no soft sand (those ‘beaches are like walking on solid concrete, I’ve walked on a few) – those beaches the soft sand was shipped in from other countries!

I remember years ago wanting to go to Africa and do that building with the plastic bottles. They were filling them with dirt and sand and they were secure
