Val’s prompt guidelines
- Theme: The struggle of good versus evil;
- either internally or externally;
- either personally or within the universe;
- either from experience or observation;
- Form: Garland Kimo (see below for explanation)
- The ‘Kimo’ is a short syllabic poetic form of three lines. The syllable count per line is 10/7/6.
- Also, the kimo is focused on a single frozen image (kind of like a snapshot). So it’s uncommon to have any movement happening in kimo poems.
- Garland Kimo?
- The ‘Garland Kimo’ is a series of four ‘Kimo’ verses, in which the fourth Kimo verse is composed of lines taken from the previous three Kimo verses, using the 1st line from the 1st Kimo, the 2nd line from the 2nd Kimo, and the 3rd (last) line from the 3rd Kimo
I wrote a second Garland Kimo that would fit the theme a bit more.
What is left
A father tries to do well by his son
Working and planning ahead
Hoping to leave something
Turmoil and joy together to pass time
Moments slip away and fade
Memory can remain
Gone from the world, leaving behind much more
From birth it is memories
Someone always wants more
A father tries to do well by his son
Turmoil and joy together to pass time
Someone always wants more

I like this second one, too! I think there are many different ways that we can interpret the prompt, which is part of what makes reading through the different entries so enjoyable every week.

Yes, it is amazing how different some ideas can be and how so similar others are!

Christine when I realized you submitted another it made me smile – This one is as good (possibly better in a different way) as the first! The dynamic between fathers and sons is one fraught with false starts and unexpected stops. Sometimes it is filled with goodness but there is always the hint of tension. Well written on an under discussed topic…. ❤ ❤
