Vicious by Kevin O’Brien

Vicious by Kevin O’Brien in a gripping, suspenseful story about a serial murderer who kills mothers of young boys, leaving the boys to grow up motherless. Before the killer can be found the murders stop and people soon start to forget. The people who will never forget are the ones who lived where it all started.

Susan and her boyfriend Allen are ready for a weekend getaway with Susan’s son Matthew. They head in separate vehicles to a cabin Allen has rented for the weekend. On her way there Susan meets a man who sends bad vibes and who seems to keep popping up wherever she goes. She just wants to get to the cabin and spend time with Allen and Matthew, away from strangers and unwanted conversation. What she doesn’t know is that the house they are staying in was the place of a murder years ago. This is something neither of them will learn until it is almost too late. Unfortunately for Susan, the killer has begun killing again and she remembers who he kills, and she is not about to leave her son motherless.

I gave this story 5 out of 5 stars because it was gripping, suspenseful and there were plenty of twists and turns to make what one would think is a predictable story, very unpredictable. The characters were well developed and very believable, as were the circumstances each encountered. It is definitely worth listening to and reaching the end will leave you aghast that things like this happen in real life! A story that is fictional but pulls you in to leave you feeling like you personally know the setting and characters yourself.
