Book Review: The Mole People (Mature Thriller)

The Mole People

Four out of Five Stars!

Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down!

I was drawn in from the first page and within a few hours of finishing the book, I had finally reached the conclusion. I had to find out what happened. The ending did not disappoint.

Suzie knows she has a mental illness, one that was finally diagnosed as a late teen. She has seen multiple doctors who all try to explain to her what Schizophrenia is and how she can get help to control her symptoms. But the voices don’t stop and the paranoia increases, jeopardizing all she has been working to achieve. But Suzie doesn’t know who she can trust since she believes her mother would prefer to have her locked up in an institution just to be rid of her.
When Suzie runs away after having multiple issues with peers in her college courses she is drawn into a world, one she realizes is darker than the one she left but she cannot decide if she should listen to the voices in her head or to the people who are trying to bring her home.
This book deals with delicate issues of mental health in a very descriptive, yet sensitive way, that is honest and allows the reader to understand the turmoil someone with Schizophrenia may actually have to deal with. You begin to feel empathy for Suzie and wonder if there is anyone or anything that can help her.
I gave this story four out of five stars for the compelling characters, believable plot, and sheer honesty about an illness that affects so many people in our world. You almost understand why someone with Schizophrenia might find solace in illegal drugs, but you hope they will trust the doctors who know how to really help them live a normal, healthy life.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
