Christine,
This is easy peasy for me. It was cool to sample all three contenders but I’m giving my vote to Luther Vandross. His vocals are the best!

I’m excited to see the turn out because I don’t necessarily have a favorite.

CHRISTINE ~
If I were voting based on video visuals, Jeter Jones Da Kang would win easily! I dug the sights because that’s where I grew up — [Link> “Dogtown”. Coincidentally, the ‘LA ROCKA PISTONS’ shirt I am wearing as I type these words, I purchased in a thrift store many years ago only a couple blocks from where those Venice Beach scenes were filmed.
But, since BOTB is *ALL* about the music (unless otherwise stated by the BOTBer), the Venice Beach visuals in the Jeter Jones video don’t count.
Strictly music-wise, I gotta vote for the LUTHER VANDROSS rendition, because it was gettin’ on *down* with its bad *up*tempo self.
My Brother, Judge Al Bondigas (English Translation: Judge Meatball), also preferred the VAN-THE-MAN-DROSS version.
Chalk up two votes for muh man, Luther.
I can’t help noting that, with just a wee bit o’ editing, McFadden & Whitehead could be turned into Fadhead. Not a judgment here, simply an observation. 🙂

Did not like the Kang guy. The other two were so close I hate to vote against either of them, but I’m going with Luther.

I don’t know about Da Kang–I just like his style.
Luther made a credible showing.
But McFadden & Whitehead definitely know what’s going on here. They are the real kings of this song and they own it so they get my vote.

I meant to say I don’t like that Kang guy’s style. I intensely disliked his version.

Looking through you may be the one to break Luther’s clean sweep!

Happy October, Christine!
It was just this time of year when all the lowriders would cruise the park in their baby blue classic cars with baby moons, hydraulic suspension kits, and really loud speakers…Nowadays, you practically have to pay to see them;-) My vote goes to Luther Vandross, please.

I prefer the smoother, Luther Vandross version. Although not a huge fan of disco music, that era was a lot of fun. 🙂 Have a pleasant week!

Christine, I was hoping that you would show up for Song Lyric Sunday today as you were the one who suggested today’s theme.

Luther has it for me. Liked the second but a bit too slow in tempo for me.
