Welcome to the 6-minute challenge!
Today’s prompt is:
This is a picture of owls, many owls
*****For any participants that do NOT like restrictions, please feel free to participate in any way you would like. It is great to read the contributions!****
- Set up a timer or sit near a clock so you can keep track of the six minutes you will be writing.
- You can either use one of the prompts (photo or written) or you can free-write.
- Get ready and write for 6 minutes, that is it! Can you write a complete story? Can you think of a new Sonnet? Can you write 400 words? 400? 500? There are no restrictions on what kind of writing you do, but you should try to be actively writing for six minutes.
- After you are done writing, include your word count and then post back to this page #Simply6Minutes or include your link in the comments section. Pingbacks are enabled.
- *Feel free to leave your work completely unedited. I believe it is good to see, especially for new writers, that even very seasoned writers don’t write a perfect first draft.*
- Have fun, challenge yourself if you’d like, read and respond to others’ posts.
Thank you for participating!

I believe it is in the Mexican culture that owls are considered bad luck. I’d have to double-check which culture, but I do know that when I was taking classes at the pottery studio some of the other artists were taken aback at the number of owls that were incorporated into the pottery.

I think they’re like anything else. We can make them into something bad if we want to. I do believe they alert us, but whether their intention is there, I don’t know. I have a trippy story about an owl. For another time perhaps.

I always loved them and would search to find them when I heard them in the trees. They are too good at hiding!

[…] When the ‘equity’ program was instituted in Owldom, there was a lot of excitement. All were to be protected from ‘natural selection’ so the entire community heaved a giant sigh of relief. There’d be no more death or discrimination for not being smart, or focused, or any requirement for pursuing the skills needed to survive in the world where ‘merit’ was king.Soon, many owls stopped ‘giving a hoot’ about hunting, or learning now useless, survival skills. What a beautiful paradise without worry!Yet, it soon became an overpopulated group of mindless ‘pigeons’ and lost any prideful reputation for self-sufficiency.I’ve heard that very community is currently panicked and dropping like flies. Good thing that people are too smart to fall for equity programs!https://christinebialczak.com/2023/09/19/simply-6-minutes-welcome-to-the-challenge-09-12-2023-2/ […]
