We are born into this world
to be with people
who welcome us
and love us
and take care of us.
We are not all blessed
with this luxury
as not all humankind
is kind.
If happiness is supposed to be good
then why does it have to be taken away?
If happiness is supposed to be good
then why can’t everyone have it?
If happiness is supposed to be good
then why does it not always last?
We are born into this world
to love others
who are a part of our lives.
Who decides what happiness is?
Who decides who feels happiness?
Who decides to take it away?

You know, I think about people who have endured so much worse than I have and I feel guilty. I think what got me going today was seeing posts about people being so sad that their kids are going off to college. It just gets me because my kid was supposed to go too…It’s not supposed to be a pity party but it is hard. I know I’m not the only one who feels it but it is awful to feel like that about someone else’s accomplishments.

Just because someone has had less sleep than you, doesn’t mean you’re not tired as well. Sadness and grief is like that, it’s not fair to try and quantify what led to that sadness as we all experience it differently. It’s funny how pain is so personal yet at the same time is a universal human experience.

I know I am especially emotional right now because Sunday will be the 4 year “anniversary” of losing my son. I spent today looking at pictures which I thought would be torture but I actually needed it to remember all that we did as he grew up. Life seems to focus on right before he passed but there was a lot before that that I have to remember.
