Vera’s Alibi

As she approached him, he dropped the gun on the sofa and told her he didn’t do it. “I know,” she said. “We just need to get out of here!” Vera grabbed Tony’s hand, pulling him toward the door when they heard footsteps approaching the door. “Shit,” Vera said, “Someone is coming in. Hurry up, follow me.” Vera spun around, still holding Tony’s hand, spinning him like he was a dancer, and started walking toward the back hallway. She opened a door at the end and pulled Tony in behind her. Slamming the door she let out a sigh of relief but wouldn’t let go of Tony.
“Where are we?” Tony whispered.
“This leads down to my apartment. Bruce and I used to sort of see each other so he had this stairway put in. I used to always put a padlock on it but when I heard the fighting up there I took it off so I could sneak up to see what Bruce was up to.”
“My prints are all over the place up there!” Tony sighed.
“Don’t worry Tony, I will just tell them that I brought you up to meet Bruce. That way it won’t be an issue to see your prints up there. But, Tony, what happened?”
“Vera, the guy went nuts! He was screaming at me telling me that someone was after him. He kept pointing toward the bedroom screaming. Finally, I went into the bedroom to look and he finally went silent. When I went back out he was dead.”
