Apparently, Amazon has changed its standards and they consider three out of five stars for any review a “bad review” and therefore will not publish the review. This makes it very difficult for reviewers, like me, who find a book or item to be three out of five stars and not really any better. I feel like three out of five means that “things are okay, not great, but not bad”.

Well, BAH, and HUMBUG! .. I do wish they’d stop moving the bloody goalposts … all in the pursuit of some obscure ‘data’ that I bet 99% of them don’t even know what to do with.

They can’t do that surely? How are you meant to review a book honestly?

It’s like when every kid had to get a trophy on Field Day just for participating! I turned out alright without field day trophies

It’s far worse than that! It’s censorship, it goes against freedom of speech in my opinion, what if you read a truly horrific book? You have to still give it three stars or be unable to say a word on it…

Well, I had to actually retract my promise to leave a review because a few of the books were so bad I couldn’t leave a more positive review. And, honestly, even bad books have something good usually, but yeah, if you have to give three or more stars, thats just a lie.

I agree, a very badly written book with a great plot (or vice versa) might be a 2 star read but not necessarily a negative review. Also reviews are there for other readers to know if they would or wouldn’t like a good, you can’t make every book look amazing.

Amazon should not be allowed to do that! A reviewer should be able to give a book whatever number of stars they feel is appropriate!

That is the point is it not?

I don’t know but I do book reviews and one of the requirements to read the book is to post a review on Amazon. If I have to give someone four stars just so I can fulfill my end of the deal how is that honest? Maybe it is something they are just trying out or something.

That’s nuts! I’ve always considered 5 stars to be spectacular, 4 to be great, 3 to be good, 2 to be meh, and 1 to be bad. I wonder why they’ve changed it?

I don’t know if it is with everything but I know it is with some stuff because I have been waiting for them to publish a book review I put in and they won’t!
