Go Dog Go Cafe’s Haibun Wednesday!

This week’s prompt is to write about an encounter with an animal. Go where the prompt leads.

My gaze drops and lands on yellow eyes, glowing from the sun slowly setting behind me. My heart quickens, my breath speeds up, and I feel a trickle of sweat trail down my cheekbone. If ever danger existed it was right here, now, and I would be witness to its fate.

Slowly stepping back
Muscles twitching under skin
Prepare for a bite

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to name a specific animal. I thought this might lead to reading it in different ways.
