Dinner with Friends: Compilation 5/17/22

Dinner with Friends

I was having a dinner
when a few of my friends,
the closest ones here,
when noise softly begins
I suddenly realized
that
the noise was from me
I was enthusiastic
As they all could see
I looked up at the trees
with the shape of a fan
pulchritude clearly
exciting sight for a man
The orangey sky
glowed a deep, murky hue
in my behavioral coma
I thought just what to do
I crossed the small yard
and leaned on the gate
a square metal lock
hanging from a small plate
I yanked at the lock
but it was fixed up real tight
so I bid them farewell
and said to all them, “goodnight”

Reach (a mirror nonet)

keep going until you feel complete
infinite possibilities
dreams turn to reality
endless places to go
imagine yourself
see beyond now
open eyes
future
reach

Keep Reaching (a tanka poem)

When you feel limits being reach

For the visually challenged writer, the photo is of an elderly lady with a look of concentration on her face. Her arms are stretched out in front of her and she’s holding a camera in her hands attempting to take a photo with it.

Come on you nincompoop, I said to smile. What the heck is wrong with you? Your lips turn to stone?

Bethel, will you give me a minute to think here.

What the heck is there to think about? You turn your lips up and voila you have a smile. Now hold still so I can get this picture.

Bethel, you don’t understand me.

Aw, that’s all you ever say. Bethel, you don’t understand me. Bethel, you don’t listen to me. Bethel, you don’t cook my favorite foods…

Okay, okay. Here, how is this? (Bernard turns and pulls down his pants to show her a full moon)

Dirty old man is what you are! Now turn around and smile!

The Cat in the Hat sat back in his chair
He motioned the children, “Come on over here”.
They looked at the screen and were totally awed
At the mirror that smoked, it had to be flawed.
But the Cat took their hands and he tried to explain
“What you see on the screen, well it isn’t all sane”
He continued to show them some other strange sites
like Fandango and Bushboy, and a Stine who just writes.
Then they closed up the tab and went back to the toys
That they knew how to use without unfettered ploys
When their mother came home and the children were fed
She thanked the smart cat and sent the kids straight to bed.

Fandango and Bushboy, I hope you don’t mind me using your names in my work. They just popped into my head and fit nicely!
