The Sunday Whirl: Wordle #473

Words: face, flex, loon, tense, times, joy, bloom, moon, present, wrinkle, reflect, overcome https://sundaywhirl.wordpress.com/

You can overcome

When times get real tense
and joy seems so far
remember your face
and the person you are

you’ll loosen some stress
by the light of the moon
If you flex your neck
like the neck of a loon

Try not to resist
Feeling wind as it blows
Seeing how the birds fly
how a flower bloom grows

Be present in life
just a wrinkle in time
Reflect on your blessings
Overcome those sublime

Good News!

Healthy coral reef in Dry Tortugas National Park, Florida

We are the world Friday Good News: https://greenlifebluewater.earth/2020/07/31/pfas-traps-watwb/

Plus, over the past few years, news about coral reefs around the world has largely followed one theme: bad news. Coral populations are declining dramatically, with climate change remaining a big threat.

But this month, we got some good news about corals in the Florida Keys. Researchers at the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium in Summerland Key found propagated coral they had outplanted in the ocean spawned in the wild. This is a big deal, as it’s the first time restored corals like these have been observed to reach this sexual reproduction milestone.

Joining Ira to talk about this big breakthrough is Hanna Koch, a postdoctoral research fellow at the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium in Summerland Key, Florida, and Hollie Putnam, assistant professor of biology at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston.

Impact: Weekend Writing Prompt #171

How sweet is it when what you want to say ends up being the perfect word count???

Show your love

Whatever you do when you go home tonight

Kiss all your lovees and tell them sleep tight.

One day may come when they are no longer there

Now is the time to tell them you  care.

Take heed of my words ‘cause I know what I say

The love of your life can be taken away.

Open yourself up
Together you will  survive
More so than alone

Sunday Photo Fiction – Aug 2 2020

Show it with color

Brad knew that his family was watching the news closely. They were like the other elderly folks who were stuck home, half quarantining, half trying to understand what was going on in this world. His mom saw every face that showed up on the news, he didn’t want to take any chances. He could only imagine the horror on his mom’s face if she saw him out demonstrating his rights. She would see it as an embarrassment. She didn’t understand how important it was to him, to treat people equally, to use your power the right way.

Brad and his friends were truly diverse. Not one of them was ethnically the same as another. This is what brought them together. They were determined to fight for equality for all people. But they wanted to do something different, something that wouldn’t hurt anyone, but something that would catch the attention of everyone, especially the news broadcasters.

Devon was the one who produced the idea. Take the typical smoke bombs and add the color powder. He could get it easily at his job, manufacturing colored powders and sprays for construction sites. Marcus could get the smoke bombs, having connections to some other pranksters. Derek was going to work with Brad on some sort of head covering to hide their identities. He had mentioned earlier that his little sister was in a school play with silly shape characters; they would use some of those ideas.

The plan worked perfectly. When the newspapers were printed it was Brad who made the headlines. After patting himself on the back and enjoying his stardom he noticed one setback that could never be taken back, his tattoos. His mom would identify that if she took a few minutes to notice. He was screwed!

The Sunday Whirl: Wordle 466

Written for the Sunday Whirl: https://sundaywhirl.wordpress.com/2020/07/26/wordle-466/
flow, chain, weigh, raven, mend, drain, name, chime, shallow, lace, trace, vote

Life Dissolves

Shallow waters flow
A raven calls my name
Chimes can be heard
as life drains from my body
Problems no longer weigh on me
for I have mended my wrongs
tracing my lifeline
like lace
held by a chain
weighing me down
a vote no longer needed
to decide where to go.

Friends

A walk, a story, a snicker, and a sob. Not hand in hand but hearts connected. Sounds, smells, sights all provoke new memories, recall past, fond reminders.

Walking on the path
Best friends remember the days
Nothing can compare

A memory, an idea, silence, and tears. Hearts have known each other for years. The day was made to spend time with an old friend.

Weekend Writing Prompt

For SammiScribbles: https://sammiscribbles.wordpress.com/2020/07/18/weekend-writing-prompt-166-hinterland/?wref=tp

Sail the unknown

They called it the vast beyond, some called it Hinterland. No one had ever ventured beyond the rock jetty. There were tales that said you would fall right off the edge of the earth if you sailed that far. Other stories were told about monsters, cyclones, and boats disappearing in a fog, none of which could be proven since they all ended in death. I didn’t believe any of it and I was going to prove once and for all that the only thing there was water.  (87 words)

Saturday Mix: metaphors

His words cut deeper than a knife

They had plans to go to dinner. She dressed up nicely, making sure her makeup was just right. The only detail now was to find out what time and where they would meet.

“Hey, what time are we meeting for dinner?”

“I don’t want to meet you for dinner.”

“What do you mean? I thought we were going to go out tonight.”

I don’t ever want to see you again.”

His words cut deeper than a knife.

“But you said you loved me.”

“I just wanted to break your heart, like you broke mine years ago.”

Cavalier: Weekend Writing Prompt

For Sammi at Sammiescribbles: https://sammiscribbles.wordpress.com/2020/07/11/weekend-writing-prompt-165-cavalier/

Barb, carer of puppies

When it came to the puppies

Barb was too cavalier

Saying they were fine alone

Never being near.

One day the youngest puppy

Went out to run around

He got lost then got stolen

He still hasn’t been found.

Barb is now a bit more there

For now, she sees the harm

She puts them all on leashes

And ties them to her arm

She doesn’t mind the barking

The biting or the poo

She’s happy being ready

For anything they do.
