Wednesday Hodgepodge

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Wednesday Hodgepodge. As a reminder, there will not be a Hodgepodge next week (September 28th). The Hodgepodge will resume the following Wednesday, October 5th. Join in here: http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/2022/09/recording-hodgepodge.html?m=1

1. Volume 478. Sounds like a lot. Where were you in 1978? If you weren’t born where were you in 2008?

In 1978 I was 7 years old and living in Guilford, CT. I went to Calvin Leete Elementary School, the same school I went to do my student teaching so many years later for my teaching certificate.
In 2008 I think I was living in Niantic, CT. Both my kids and myself always wished we had never moved away from there but who knows how things would have gone had we stayed…

2. Raise your hand if you remember records playing at a speed of 78 rpm? What’s a topic that when it comes up you ‘sound like a broken record’?

I am raising my hand! I remember we only had a few of these records. If I remember correctly they were thicker than the 45s. We also had an 8 track tape player, not sure if that is the right name. It looked like an old version of an old version of Nintendo!
“You sound like a broken record” reminds me of a parent saying this to a nagging youngster. My mother probably used to say it to me!

3. What’s the last thing you recorded in some way?

I would have to say a video of me putting one of my miniatures together using a GoPro. I wanted to record the entire building process until I realized it would be way too long and way too boring. I don’t even know if I still have it!

4. Thursday is the first day of fall (in the northern hemisphere). How do you feel about the changing seasons? Something you’re looking forward to this fall?

I don’t know how I feel about the changing seasons because I moved out of the northeast and live in the south now. I guess I will miss some of the colors of the leaves, even though we might take a ride up north soon to see David’s dad. One thing I always looked forward to and will certainly miss is apple picking. That was one of my favorite things to do in the fall.

5. In what way (or ways) are you like the apple that didn’t ‘fall far from the tree’?

I see so many mannerisms in my father that are mine too! Weird stuff usually, like how obsessed he is with clean teeth and flossing. The way we “twiddle our thumbs” so to speak when we are waiting for something. My mother is no longer alive but she was wonderfully crafty and was able to make anything and everything. I think this is closer to who I am.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Lately, every book I read has a female character who has either lost her husband or a child. Part of me wants to stop listening to these stories but I like them. I read so many different books by various authors, so there isn’t a connection. Just weird, like life is making me not want to push my feelings back.
