A cage cannot hold
The feelings within
regardless of the size
of the space allowed
because sounds still pass
between the bars
The air is stifled
Leaving the ones caged breathless
Freedom is not lost

I forgot that I was writing a SenHai so I had written this poem first…
They told me once that I was smart
I make noises like a burp or fart
I love my grapes, crisp chips, and cheese
But do not pet or touch me, please
When I was bought I was just caged
It made my mom and dad enraged
They knew I was much more than this
They took me home, my life now bliss
So do not take me back again
A pet store cage just like a pen
Where animals are locked and left
Its like a jail, free life bereft.

You’ve captured the feeling of oppression but yet also the inescapable desire to feel free. Lovely!
