Melissa’s Fandango Flash Fiction Challenge #355: Marcel’s Photo Op

Marcel knew it was risky, but the minute he spotted that hard-shelled African spotted turtle, he knew he had to capture at least one image of the mysterious creature everyone thought was extinct. He decided to wait until dusk, so there would be no problems with lighting, no sunbeams to distort the picture. There was just enough light that he didn’t need a flash so he knew he had to find the turtle quickly before it got too dark to see. Creeping closer to the creek, he heard a soft gurgling sound off to his right. Was that the elusive turtle? Marcel crept closer, knowing that each step could result in a quicksand trap, but he was ready to free himself if that were to happen. Slowly, Marcel crept. Bubbles rippled to the surface.

Jackie was waiting for Marcel to get back from his photo shoot. He said he’d be back before dark. What was it he said he was looking for, a turtle? Well, hopefully he found the turtle quickly and made it home soon, but she was starved!

The crocodile was starving too until Marcel came along. The camera added an extra crunch!
