Write a poem inspired by leaves (dying ones or newly emerged). For bonus points use a Tanka to express your feelings about the leaves…
The tanka is a thirty-one-syllable poem, traditionally written in a single unbroken line. A form of waka, Japanese song or verse, tanka translates as “short song,” and is better known in its five-line, 5/7/5/7/7 syllable count form

Autumn Leaves
Leaves fall faster than
Tears being released alone
Littering the ground

For some it is time to work

For some it is time to gaze in awe at nature’s multi-coloured carpet – me included!

For sure! It is absolutely amazing how such color can be produced in nature!

There is so much truth in your Tanka! As long as I don’t have to rake leaves, they are beautiful and fun to kick through (love the sound of crunchy leaves)!

I used to think jumping in leaf piles was fun until I had a slug on me! I haven’t had to rake leaves in many years so this year will be interesting. We don’t even have a lawn mower yet!

Hehe! We sold all our lawn equipment! We have a leaf blower because the lawn people won’t sweep the deck. Good luck with the leaves! And I’m not worried about slugs but I was impaled by a stick once… I’ll stick to stomping through the leaves – no jumping into piles for me!

I remember a long time ago a friend telling me about kids hiding in leaves on Halloween and one kid got run over by a car because they didn’t know there was a kid hiding under the leaves! Well, not to be any way but why would you hide in leaves on a street?
