My Wish
How many times is it reasonable
to entertain thoughts of success
when all I desire is to see my name
in print, on a shelf, or online
Where people will know my name
because their children love my books
and the parents realize
that I write to grow and to learn.
Writing a story
Brings me joy I want to share
Beyond my own world.

You write awesome poems and stories, and I love your writing, publishing is definitely a big deal these days, you have to advertise a lot to get noticed and sell your books!

That was my mother’s wish – that I publish a book so all her friends could see my name in print…

It happened for me when I did the vanity press but I wasted so much money because once the contract was done they were done with me and my books went by the wayside. I just had a book that I really wanted to see in physical book form so I used lulu press which is really affordable but again, you have to find a way to advertise. One of the biggest disappointments I think when I published the first books was that people I know didn’t buy them. I guess I live in this fantasy land that if your friend publishes a book you definitely want to buy one to show support and to say “hey this is my friend”. La la land…

Your experience is why I don’t bother to self-publish…

The competition is really stiff out there when it comes to books. I have self-published and put some of my children’s books on Amazon Kindle, but without me paying for advertising, they get put at the bottom of the pile with thousands of others! :<(

Yeah, it is disheartening. I review books on Booksprout and I’m not even being mean when I say that some of the books people put out there are so bad that it is almost comical.
