“Out of lemon flowers loosed on the moonlight, love’s lashed and insatiable essences, sodden with fragrance, the lemon tree’s yellow emerges”
Pablo Neruda’s poem from “A Lemon.”

Love’s Tree

Beneath the tree of blossoms white
the fragrant smell hints of fruit offered
Out of lemon flowers loosed on the moonlight
spreading the life to come

Lying side by side, minds collide blissfully
Love’s lashed and insatiable essences
Passion’s soft waves
carrying feelings of desire

Time passes slowly, love increases
Blossoms grow, intensifying
Sodden with fragrance, the lemon tree’s yellow emerges
offering the fruit of love to bind hearts

  2. During lockdown, we spent 6 months in Crete where a lemon tree reached up to our balcony and we could pluck fruit when we needed them – though this is a beautiful love poem Christine, it also transported me back to those balmy Cretan winter days…
