Easter Memories

When I first started hiding eggs I could only do it on the second floor of the home we were living in because of our dog. Rocko, a german shepherd, would have loved to eat all the goodies but because he was raised in a one story home, when we bought our first house he was afraid to go up the stairs!

My daughter would run around like a mad-woman searching and finding eggs. My son, on the other hand, looked for ones he liked. In the end they were so good about sharing!

One year our chocolate lab, Jasmine, at my daughters ENTIRE easter basket, well the contents of it! There were colorful poops for a couple of days. We learned that she did not have any reaction to eating large amounts of chocolate! (Thank goodness!)

One of my final Easter egg hunts ended up with my daughter running around the yard laughing and grabbing eggs while my son shot me daggers telling me he would never talk to me again if I made him go running around for plastic eggs. He thought it was ridiculous and would not humor me at all! That was his “black and white” view of the world, he was too old for such silly antics.

When I was a kid, Easter was the holiday where the cousins would come and the Easter Bunny would leave us all baskets! My mother always put together our baskets, which were always fantastic, but we did love that my aunt bought the prewrapped ones because they always seemed to have something fun in them. Later in life I learned that those baskets are mostly packaging, making them look full.

Thanks for reading and sharing in my memories!

  1. My sons had their first Easter Egg hunt at the neighborhood park – they were 2 and 3. The organizers just let all the kids ages 1- 12 loose and my sons each managed on egg before being pushed aside by older children. They were soured on the experience and never wanted to do the Hunt again. So we did the Easter egg hunt in the basement! To make it “fair” on had to find pink and green eggs only and the other was looking for yellow and blue… they ended up with equal eggs! No tears, no anger and best of all no competition! In fact it ended up as cooperation!

  2. Our house/single story is in reverse.
Barney always slept at the bottom of the stairs in our first and second house. He never attempted to go up the spiral staircase in our first, and only went upstairs in the second to show my Mum where her bedroom was! When we moved to a bungalow, he was totally confused so we had to show him that his bed was now in the lounge! He also used to hide in the bath behind the shower curtain during thunderstorms or fireworks, so when we took the bath out and replaced it with a shower cubicle, he decided to bury himself under the duvet instead! They are so funny!
