Violet’s prompt guidelines
- THEME: Elements of the human condition
- INSTRUCTIONS: Incorporate at least one of the three quotes below into your poem
There are years that ask questions and years that answer.
‘Their Eyes Were Watching God’ by Zora Neale Hurston (1891 – 1960)
She couldn’t decide what to do with her life
Did she want to have kids and become a wife?
Did she want to just do it, it all on her own?
Would it end like a touch down in the end zone?
Then she opened her eyes and looked up to the sky
And she asked right out loud, “Please tell me why!
Why sometimes there are years that ask questions and [then]
years that [will] answer from the depths of within?”
But no answer came as she waited so long
No chatter of chipmunks, not one bird’s love song
So she kept moving forward working hard toward a prize
Hoping it would reveal itself in front of her eyes.

Hope feels like the dangling carrot sometimes ….. I really feel the struggle of keeping going in this … 💞

Christine this is a sad reality for many (women and some men) who haven’t learned to steer their own course… The wait for fate or luck or fortune or even God to drop the answer from the sky without any effort on their part… Bravo!
