As of today, 02/12/2025 I am breaking the tie and announcing that Adele wins this battle!

I thought of this song for songs about champagne and wine…Battle of the Booze…
Then I had to find a song to have the battle and I didn’t really find one that I liked until I found this one by Adele
So, which do you like better? They are very different but I like them both.

Tuesday 2/4 update: UB40 – 2, Adele – 2
Where are all the votes?

Absolutely, UB40. It was popular in ’87, the year I moved here.

I added you to that tally. I still only have four votes though, and now they are tied.

If no other votes come in before the deadline, you can cast your own vote and break the tie. That’s definitely what I’d do in your situation. In fact, right now, my own Battle is also tied, and *my* vote may end up determining the winner of my Battle, also.

A bit late getting back to you but I think I am probably the tie breaker!

Never heard Adele’s song before and I like it. UB40 are OK, but not my thing, so Adele for me.

Pop / Rock music and I separated in 1985, and the divorce was finalized in 1986. Which is why it came as a surprise to me to find, in late ’88, that I liked the UB40 song ‘Red, Red Wine’. But then again, I always did like Reggae (in moderation).
I preferred the UB40 song to Adele’s ‘I Drink Wine’… even though I do drink wine (red), and even had a glass of it earlier tonight. I drink only the best red wine — “Straight Outta Modesto”.
Here’s the best Red Wine FUN FACT that I’m aware of:
The Bible tells us that Jesus turned water into wine (which is why I call it “Miracle Water”). Ahh… but how MUCH wine did He make from water? That’s the question. The author John Eldredge did the math in ‘Beautiful Outlaw’ (one of my all-time favorite books) and the answer is:
He turned enough water into wine that if it were bottled, it would be somewhere between 757 to 908 bottles. And that is only one of the reasons I want to go to Heaven when I “die” and party with The Master!
Nice Battle, Christine. Even though I preferred the UB40 song, I thought the Adele video was really cool! It made me think of multiple different things that I dig.

That was a really fun fact! How would someone figure something like that out? I will have to look at the book “Beautiful Outlaw” to see if it would peak my interest. Right now one of the books I am reading is “Lamb” by Christopher Moore.

In John, chapter 2, it says:
“Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.”
In his book, John Eldredge writes: “That would be somewhere close to 180 gallons. … 180 gallons equals about 682 liters. That would be 908 bottles of wine. … Take an average — 25 gallons per jar. That’s still 150 gallons, 757 bottles.”
Hmmm…. I’ve not heard of ‘Lamb’ by Moore. I’ll Google it. I must state upfront that I am what I call a “Maverick Christian”. I definitely believe that Jesus was the prophesied Messiah, our Atonement; that He was crucified and Resurrected on the third day (i.e., Sinless Savior, Holy King, Good Shepherd). However, I disagree with some of the mainstream (orthodox) Christian theology.
I don’t know if this would interest you or not. But in case it might, below is a link to a LONG blog post I wrote in 2014, wherein I explain how I came to discover ‘Beautiful Outlaw’, and three friends of mine and I discuss the book in detail:

Lamb is sort of a parody I guess you could call it. Lamb, The Gospel according to Biff, Jesus’s best friend. It is accurate and true, doesn’t make fun of religion but puts a fun twist on reading it.
