100 Forms of Poetry: #80 Sequidilla

I must go back to my personal poetry challenge and at least get through the first 100! I have not done a new poetry form from my list in a very long time. The last one I did was Roundelay (#78) but it is really #79 on my list so I have no idea what is going on….

Anyhow, Sequidilla is next

Seguidilla. Spanish 7-liner that began as a dance song.

So here are the basic rules:

  • 7-line poem
  • Syllable count for each line is 7-5-7-5-5-7-5
  • One assonance rhyme between lines 2 and 4; another one between lines 5 and 7
  • Pause between lines 4 and 5–usually an end stop
  • Also, the tone or focus changes between lines 4 and 5 as well

Seasons

The time of year is coming
Memories abound
Happiness is just as near
Laughing, crying sound
Autumn comes faster
Time to prepare for deep sleep
Full moon broadcaster

  1. I oonly just discovered this challenge of yours and have now subscribed. In April, doing the A to Z Challenge, I chose, this year, to write about Commodities but fearing this might be a little dry (it wasn’t, in the event) I decided to add a poem with a matching alphabetical form. Going for 26 forms to such constrained subjects was tough in some cases but fun – but 100! I have to hand it to you and I will be exploring your offerings over time – kudos…
