‘Boys in a Pasture’
by Winslow Homer

PROMPT: Compose an ekphrastic poem inspired by Winslow Homer’s (1836 – 1910) painting of ‘Boys in a Pasture’. (a vivid, often dramatic, verbal description of a visual work of art, either real or imagined)

I watched the two boys from the chair in my room
Before they were running around with a zoom
Now they sit quiet and ponder their life
Talking ’bout cars, about kids and a wife
They still are too young to think of the stuff
That torments the soul or makes live feel rough
But honesty comes in the form of a chat
between two young friends, all while they just sat
The wind blows around them, the grasses do sway
The bond between friends will not be pushed away
