All a bluff
It came out of nowhere
nothing was planned
a decent beginning
a card-playing hand
A hand full of aces
a poker delight
a mind clearing focus
a thought like hindsight
the couple was dancing
hand in hand all around
not a word would be spoken
not one single sound
She had on her dance shoes
He had on a tie
She hoped for his wishes
He told her a lie
Their life as they knew it
Was some sort of joke
It was all about him
Some celebrity bloke
She was pushed to the wayside
no matter her mood
It was all about him
All his bad and his good
When she finally saw it
it wasn’t too late
She still had his hand
they were still on a date
She tried to explain
What it was that she’d need
And at that very moment
His hand did recede
He looked at her plainly
no idea what she said
and the thought of true love
in her mind just went dead.

It is always amazing to go back and reread my own writing! Sometimes I amazed at how good it is and then other times I cringe!

What starts as poker, ends in love. A wonderful poem that flows beautifully, well done.
