Compose a free verse poem of no more than 12 lines on the theme of ‘belonging’.

Rules of the Game

Of all the things that belong to me or that I belong to
I question the idea of belonging; of taking, of keeping, of giving away
I know what belongs to me; my children and the love for them
I know what belongs to me; all of my possessions
Do I belong to sadness or pain that comes from strife not my own?
It is my sadness, it is my pain, it is not my strife
Do I belong to the happiness and joy that comes from the good fortune given unto others?
It is my happiness, it is my joy, it is not my good fortune
Do I belong to the hopefulness and wishes that may bring someone else joy?
It is not my hopefulness, it is not my wish
Does this belong to me if I still want someone to feel joy?

Thank you , Christine….I’d like to think if we could but answer even one of these questions….it will make a big difference in our searching….and to time as we learn more and are able enough to take on the rest…one day maybe…
