So I’m actively watching praying mantises come out of their pod. I took a video it’s hard to see but there are hundreds of them and they still keep coming and coming.
Just an update the first video I took was at 9:18 AM and right now it is 9:40 AM and they are still coming out of the pod!

Yes! They can get up to 6 inches long. Right now they are about the size of a big mosquito. They are friendly and will walk on your hand and then they hop off.

Oh my gosh. I’ve never actually watched them like that before. Great video. I wonder if this is a normal year for them or if it will be like a year of locusts, with more than normal.

I ordered the pods online. I bought 5 of them and gave two to the little boy across the street. I am just hoping a good amount of them survive and grow to full maturity.

What do you do when they all come out, just release them? And is that like a kit for it you bought somewhere? It’s super cool!

I bought the pods online and then bought the butterfly cage separately. There are different sites that say different things but right now I have them under my screened gazebo where I have a few plants. With the screen unzipped on one side there is space for small insects to get through, which is what they apparently eat. I’m not really sure though. I hope a few survive to maturity. They are friendly, believe it or not! They hop onto your hand if you hold it near them. I know in the US they are protected. I guess I will just have to wait and see how many survive.

Amazing!! I love them! I’m always thrilled when I find one in the garden! They are very efficient in keeping pests out of the garden… I also like the walking sticks – though they are much harder to spot! Great video!

I haven’t seen a praying mantis since I was a kid. They are so beneficial, which is why I thought about getting the pods. I just hope some of them survive.
